Gathering Mats via DoL is WAY out of Sync with Monster Drop rates - LTW kinda forked?

I felt it should be said that LTW got totally skipped by the simplification pass that Square has made to crafting.

I spent maybe an few hours leveling weaver, alchemist, and carpentry using DoL for mat gathering. Iv spent as much time leveling all three of those from 50-70 as I have trying to level LTWing.

I can gather 100-200 mats for a recipe for weaver in 30 minutes using DoL vs grinding out 100-200 plus mobs over a an hour or two for maybe 10-15 leathers worth of mats.

Good job over simplifying ever crafting job except LTWing...

I usually send my retainers out to gather hides for me. That adds up pretty quickly.

If you do it the fight way: Get some friends to afk at the aetheryte with you in a party while you kill the mobs. Everyone has a chance to get something, so with 1 friend you have around double the loot. Also helps, but yeah LTW is always pain in the ass.

You can effectively buy leather by desynthing cheap items for the stuff.

If you have some gil to burn waist slot items can be a particularly efficient source.

Even with this kinda stuff, it still seems a bit disproportionate, the amount of work you have to put into getting LTW materials vs any other DoH job.

If I were a CRP, I go out and chop 4-5 logs.
If I were a BSM, ARM, or GSM, I'd get a combination of sands and ore to make an ingot, or a whetstone and some gems to get gems (though I do notice that ShB GSM have to use timed nodes to get gems)
If I were a WVR, many of the cloth types come from either plants or coccoons harvested by BTN.

ALC and CUL are a bit of a hybrid, there's several items from both camps.

LTW is the only job that is Mob Drop-Only, where every single recipe (just about?) requires items that are only gotten from enemies.

Now it's true that in ShB, the Gemstones and FATEs help with this, but it's still a bit disproportionate, especially when they still want 4 skins to make 1 leather. It should only be like 2 to make up for the discrepancy.

so true, just pushed LTW to 80 last night, I read the drop rates were abysmal so i've been sending my retainer to get smilodon and green glider hides and to be honest with just those two stacks making turn in items, leve items and a few other things in the craft log for xp boost and to sell and i zoomed through LTW.

Skins were as much if not more than actual leathers on Diabolos MB which is ridiculous. I went out to test green glider hunt and forget that, they're all spread out with horrible drop rate. I get the RNG aspect of item hunting in games but it's not like the monster just doesn't have skin lol Maybe in the fight you damaged its hide too much to use? I wish they'd up the drop rate a bit.

There's always been the quantity disparity between creature drops and what can be gathered since all players can get the creature drops so more can make it to the MB if players want to sell to others instead of vendoring. Same applies to retainers - since so many player have only combat jobs leveled, they can send their retainers out to get the skins to sell on the MB if they choose.

I suspect they added the skins and other creature drops to the gemstone traders to help smooth out the supply a bit.

It's still possible for you to be self-sufficient by killing the mobs yourself but will require a bit more of your time to do it. Up to you whether you want to use your time killing for the drops, or buy from others so you can spend that time doing other things.

Why didn't you just buy them with gemstones?

That's still some ridiculous disparity with the other jobs. say minimum 3 minutes for a fate gets you 1.5 leathers plus you still need to gather for the alumen.

I wasn't trying to say otherwise, I was merely asking the poster I quoted why they were farming mobs instead of doing FATEs. Pretty sure you can do a fate and buy 6 leathers faster than you could get the leathers to drop, lol. So might as well just do the FATEs. And besides, by the time you do what again, 300 FATEs to rank them all up? you'll have enough gemstones to buy you... well, way more leather than you could ever need to get LTW to 80. 300 FATEs is what, 3,600 gemstones which would buy you 1,800 skins which would make 450 leathers.

Though I suppose that this would not take into account the stones needed to buy the unlocks, BUT you get what I mean.
