I don't enjoy it (yet) because I always struggled with the Ivalice mechanics in the first place. Also had bad luck on first try standing too close to the multi-cut bamboo, seemed a bit cruel.

However, I also like the idea of this, as essentially training for new players to be exposed to this mechanic early on, where they may safely learn it and be able to apply it to future instances when they eventually encounter it.

Which... hell, that'd actually be kinda a cool usage of GATEs, to transition some of them over to pre-training for difficult/unusual mechanics that players will encounter in the future. They could/should honestly try to implement some of that into overworld FATEs as well. A way to practice a mechanic solo, so you're not entirely surprised or unprepared for it in group content.
