I am thrilled. As a gender non binary person I can finally be myself.I'm not thrilled. I'd rather see the resources spent on making new facial hair options for male characters as well as new tattoo and scar options for male and female characters. Both of which have been requested many times over the years on this board and elsewhere, so it's disappointing that they're diverting previous resources towards something like this instead.
It's made particularly disappointing by Blizzard's recent announcement of a major overhaul of the character customisation of every playable race. It's time for FFXIV to do more on that front.
I'm sorry what? other than the ilv1 glam gear, all gear in the new Yorha raid has 2 different looks one for females which make them look closer to 2B and 9S inspired for males (i'm currently wearing the aiming trench coat), its not hyper masculine but it is masculine(heck the aiming coat as black looks like Neo's from the Matrix). So if they are too close to drag to you there is a system in place, you unlock it at lv 15, called glamour, so long as that is in place HOW ARE YOU FORCED TO CROSS DRESS?! answer your not anything that is not up to your taste you can change on a whim at your whim to something else in game that suits you.Well if they went with nothing but gender neutral options, let's look at the new Yorha gear I already mentioned. They would have to make 2 variations of each, a male and a female, which means 1 of 2 variations would drop, or they would have to double the amount of drops so that 1 of each would drop and we know they are not gonna do that. So unless you were really steadfast about running a dungeon you would be forced to take the variation you do not want just to have gear so you can do higher level raids, forcing me into a small dress unless I wanted to glam over it, which I may not want to do because I like the male version aesthetic. This also applies after the raid is outdated and I am just running it for glam. I have the piece of gear I need just not the gender I want, which is...no.
Anything that drops and is rolled on, needs to be locked out of this system otherwise you are making it doubly hard to get a piece you want/need for no other reason than to just please a few ppl who feel everyone should be ok with doing twice the work just to appease their own wants and needs.
Like I said, if you want to make crafted options or options purchased with tomes or mgp, that's fine, even if it would make our menus obnoxiously long. But forcing all gear into this system would be incredibly silly. Like I said, you should still have options, but I shouldn't be forced into it if I don't want to be. Wanting to dress my male character in a masculine way does not make me a bad person just like wanting to dress your male character in a feminine way doesn't make you a bad person. Putting pressure on a mutli-national company to conform to what you want because you have some misguided notion of what you feel is the only way or because you want to appear woke, however, does...on either side.
Having options is what's important, taking options away, however, is what is wrong with this system.
The fact you brought up woke culture twice makes me feel you are taking this way too personally, it isn't anything of the sort, people have requested these outfits since they came out to be unlocked for both genders so they could have more options, the devs listened yay \o/ they didn't have to but they did, the resources are already spent. Lastly i do not want people to put pressure on anybody to do things a certain way it does nothing but start to breed resentment to things these outfits were just requested by a portion of the community the fact the devs listened and are sorting it out is proof asking for something helps (see also primal totems, gear/housing design contests) so if they are not catering to your needs try asking for more it may get sorted you never know![]()
Guy butt is best butt <3
Then I should prolly add, I'm not really a part of the woke culture, the whole prententiousness it carries is a turn off. But this isn't something that's restricted to woke culture. Like "woke culture" has what, only come out in the last few years?I'm sorry what? other than the ilv1 glam gear, all gear in the new Yorha raid has 2 different looks one for females which make them look closer to 2B and 9S inspired for males (i'm currently wearing the aiming trench coat), its not hyper masculine but it is masculine(heck the aiming coat as black looks like Neo's from the Matrix). As another non-binary individual I'm also thrilled. Shame the High House Justaucorps isn't on the list YET, It's probably the one piece I've been wanting on my Viera for the longest, it just looks so dapper <3
