If male characters want to wear that ugly dress all power to them. I think it looks awful on period on both male and female. I wouldn't wear it. It's hideous. Now those boots? I am all for that.

It's progress. This was something Yoshi-p wanted to do for a while and now it's finally happening. I think the 2B outfit alone was a good sign that they're committed to making usable by all.
On the note of people arguing its a waste of resource for something that not everybody is going to use, where is their out cry when SE 'wastes' resource on gear many find ugly or when it's a look that doesnt suit all?
At the end of the day, they're glamour options people wanted and a lot of outfits out there only suit a minority of people's taste. I don't see how now that gender is involved that it's a problem.
I personally think a lot of gear will look awful on alternate genders and only appeals to a niche market of role-players and/or subtle changes to glamours.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with a wider choice of gears to use on glamours and if anyone is actually "upset" about this, they should get their heads examined.
It doesn't hurt anyone, it appeals to a section of the community, there is literally no reason to restrict it.
Sorry, I'm confused: overreact to what?
I feel like this is missing context.
Was there news about this somewhere or is this about the Nier dress?
Look as long as I can wear skirts on my male toon, I'll be happy.
I keep wanting to swap my character's gender... but.... I need to be able to wear my summoner yuna garb when I'm in summoner!
I dont understand what the issue is? Are we complaining that males can wear the female clothing now or that time is being taken to make sure thats a thing?
Look, if people want stuff to be worn by both sexes, that should be fine, and frankly all the outfits should be wearable more or less by either sex. That being said, I personally find it silly to see male characters running around in 2B's gear, simply because it looks pretty awful. I dont think people fully understand that some clothing articles are designed to accentuate certain features on females or males, so sticking it on the opposite sex doesnt work out to well because, you know, males and females are not 1:1 copies of one another and have some differences in their morphology. But if people are determined to wear it, go for it. Youll end up looking clownish IMO, but if it floats your boat then alright.
You better watch out, saying something like that is effectively a crime nowadays.I dont think people fully understand that some clothing articles are designed to accentuate certain features on females or males, so sticking it on the opposite sex doesnt work out to well because, you know, males and females are not 1:1 copies of one another and have some differences in their morphology. Not really. Their opinion was fine and they didn't take the stance that it means people shouldn't have it. People don't have to like the glamour options, they may take the stance it doesn't work or how a piece of gear is designed with certain features in mind based on people's shape. If you're arguing it is a reason for people who want it to not have it, then that's the problem. I don't agree with the idea of people policing other people's fashion sense, their sense of style or what they like or find aesthetically pleasing or what amuses them and so on, especially when it's so arbitrary and subjective.
The dev team adds all sorts of gear that some find aesthetically pleasing, but others do not, some arguably look hideous for a variety of reasons, but that's never mattered when they've done it because variety is expected and people's tastes and what people like will vary. What I find looks hideous, the next might not. Heck people wear stuff that's not designed with their shape in mind, but we don't police them on that either.
So I don't really get the argument that gear should be restricted when people want certain items on their character who's of an opposite gender to what they're locked to. Although people seem to be obsessing over the idea of men in skimpy outfits and maid outfits. But there's gear I can't wear on my female characters that I would glamour, like the Expeditioner's Coat.
The only reasonable argument against it I've seen thus far has been about developer resource and whether it is worth them spending extra resource they could have spent elsewhere. I feel only SE can give the true insight there on what resource it costs and how it's managed. And the same argument could be applied to a plethora of glamour options, but I've yet to see the argument made in those contexts.
Indeed, and it's not even a matter of gender, just body shape - even more so in this game where you have everything from Lalafell to Elezen to Roegadyn all able to equip the same gear, which is no promise that all of them will (or should) look good in any given piece.I dont think people fully understand that some clothing articles are designed to accentuate certain features on females or males, so sticking it on the opposite sex doesnt work out to well because, you know, males and females are not 1:1 copies of one another and have some differences in their morphology.
I have six different characters currently, and things that look great on one can look awful and badly-fitting on another. It's just how it works.
