SE would grandfather in almost anything else but you don't grandfather us mentors. I am going to keep this short. You don't respect how much time and effort I have put into the game so far. You don't respect that I have been a mentor for over 2 years. Then you don't need my $30.00 a month. Maybe you will respect that.

Honestly OP, your post perfectly demonstrates why you probably should not be a mentor. You're displaying quite an entitled attitude here, and clearly don't possess the humility and/or self-awareness to realize that being a mentor is a responsibility, not some kind of reward or badge of honor for you to earn and show off.

I will be losing my mentor status because I refuse to level a healer, but I don't need a crown to help people. I haven't had it equipped nor have I joined the NN in months. Labeling oneself with the crown tends to make any situation worse in my experience.

Leveling healer is easy, just go WHM, watch netflix while grinding dungeons and your lvl 80 in a week or two.

It is a little unfair how it's against the rules to help other players and they're forbidden from asking you any in-game advice related to instances or combat unless you have that crown over your head.

You don’t need a crown to mentor other players. If you care this much about the crown, are you certain that what you care about is actually helping other people and not about having a status symbol?

Mentor players without the crown—it’s not as if you need the crown’s permission to help people. And you’re not entitled to mentorship simply because you’ve subscribed to the game for 2 years. Your money pays for access to the game, but it doesn’t guarantee you any of the “extras” found within. Those are all earned. Go earn the commendation requirement like everyone else has had to do.

I renewed mine bc I want the mount. I have had it turned off since mentors came out bc I didn't want to wear the icon of shame. Never stopped me from helping ppl. And I have never been in the novice network, either.

Agreed. Remove it entirely is the best solution, rather than bandaid fixes like comm requirements.

You know it's a bad system when I can still become a mentor right now if I wanted to. I never mentor anybody. In fact I was starting arguments in the new raid with people who were wasting time explaining fights.

how is square going to check if you are helping anyone?
