A work around for the viera hairstyle issue

I think I found a compromise that'll make Viera players happy and create less work for the dev team. Two birds with one stone!

Why not just add to the lore that Viera only have a certain set of hairstyles they can wear because they are the only ones the wood approves of? The Viera are bond to the will of the wood in pretty much all things, so if the wood told them they could only wear their hair in 1 of 17 different ways, that would explain why they couldn't use any other hairstyles.

Wasn't sure whether to put this here on in the lore sub forum. So does this work for people?

No. Using lore to explain things you can not do technically is one thing. Using lore to get out of doing something you don't want to do is quite another and is a slippery slope that has nothing good at its end.

Makes me imagine a conversation with a Viera being a teenager going out and the Wood being their helicopter parent.

That wouldn't work anyways because there's other hairstyles that Viera had in XII that weren't available in XIV but yet we got Fran's hair (sorta)

Thank you! I was just trying to think of a fix that would save the developers time in the long run.

Viera don't actually have hair. The tops of our heads are a fractal misalignment in the fabric of reality. You only see "hair" because your mind is trying to shy away from your own insignificance. You expect hair, not a yawning void into the all-devouring nothing five minutes to the left of the void, and so you see hair. It's better than trying to make rational sense out of what happens when parallel lines cross while dividing by zero on the thirty-second day of February at 6:06:06 PM.

You just explained Guy Fieri's hair. Or as some call him....Guy Vieri!

That reasoning only works until you consider those who are no longer bound to will of the wood, which is what the PC Viera are assumed to be. On a slight digression one notable aspect of their naming conventions is that those who venture outside the wood will even take on new names, further distancing themselves from that will. Even if the race as a whole were established as a hive mind of some sort, no matter what there are going to be some outliers be it through player choice or a Gnath/Vath situation.

That being said using lore as an excuse to impose such limitations is - no offense, this is just my subjective opinion - absolutely terrible. They tried to use that as their reasoning for omitting male Viera and I don't think I need to elaborate on how well that sat with many people, yours truly included.

    Nice try though, OP.
