I don't feel like it's any harder/harsher than previous 24 man raids. Most of the aoes telegraph and handle like typical FFXIV aoes. The exception in this new 24 man is the staggered divebomb/line aoes that 9S does when he flies off in his suit, since that damage/effect is tied to the animation instead of the typical position snapshot. And in terms of overall mechanics and movement, it's actually less punishing than many of the older 24 man encounters. For example, there are a lot less one-shot mechanics (as in mechanics where you just die if you mess up even once, which were pretty common in HW and SB 24 mans).

I've only been through it twice, (first time was in progress, joining halfway through) and most of the mechanics were fairly intuitive and avoidable (with just some quick 1-2 sentence explanations in alliance chat for the last two bosses). A lot of people I saw dying frequently looked like they were essentially ignoring the mechanics, so I'd wager it's likely they were simply paying attention to the wrong thing at the wrong time (and that's normal in a new fight!). Most of it just comes down to situational awareness, and getting more familiar with the fights/mechanics should help greatly with that. I'm sure it will feel better after you try it a few more times and/or get used to things a bit more!

It just has a lot going on, and SE may be pushing the limits of human situational awareness in this raid, especially with the second boss where you have to rotate the camera to know what mechanics are coming, all the while trying to keep tabs on the boss itself when it does its own thing. You will learn the fight, given enough runs.

What frustrates me though is when I die, I'm on the floor for a long time, as is most other people who die.

Considering that Engels' immediate reaction to seeing the Warrior of Light is trying to kill him, I don't see how making the Talos is pointless. Especially in light of how it not only brought everyone together, but also inspired change in the people of Eulmore.

I enjoyed it. The mechanics were elegant in their simplicity, as they say. They look incredibly difficult, but really are quite simple when it comes down to it.

The 2nd boss is neat in that each alliance has different mechanics, as well as similar mechanics to react to, so it's somewhat different each run depending on alliance. The fights are all fun, and while some may think the NIER bit disengaging, I found it to fit into the XIV universe quite well.

Lets face it, we had clones in Crystal Tower, The Emperor Xande basically made himself immortal, the Allagans were harnessing primals like Bahamut and otherworldly beings such as Omega. Oh did I mention Omega? A mechanical/technological being that can take on human form? Yeah, it fits in quite well, and even the aesthetic wasn't super off-putting. The pipes and such of the factory could be seen as a scaled up Cerulean Processing Plant type area, or the various castrums, or heck, Garlemald may have things similar.

I'm looking forward to the next 2 raids.

I'm just hoping we actually get some relevant lore out of this whole deal instead of it being wholly self-contained.

The raid itself was fun, but I don't want it to just be a love letter to the Nier Automata fans. Ivalice was also largely its own story but it at least had a stinger that's likely to end up becoming a potentially huge problem in the near future.

The Nier lore has dimension traveling already baked in, it's how that universe was created in the first place as it's basically the result of Ending E from Drakengard 1, so I wouldn't doubt they're going to explain it in such a way. Part of me also hopes it doesn't just boil down to 'and then Yoko Taro decided it was so', as it has a lot of potential to expand our existing lore in rather interesting ways.

    I loved it.

thought the bosses were fun to fight and learn. whole alliance was having a good time.

Loved the fact you can explore the dungeon afterwards and collect Lore notes.

Only con for me is the whole outfit coffer situation.

I do understand how people feel it's a bit weird mixing a futuristic style universe with ffxiv's.
but I've seen weirder Like that one mod for Morrowind
