With NG+, you don’t have to slog through ARR just to relive HW. Or slog through ARR and HW for SB. Or all three for ShB. Not to mention you can’t redo the story any other way on your main character, so that’s what NG+ is made for.

And in time it should also include job quests from what I've gathered, which will be a boon to those people who used potions to catch up to their friends but don't have the time to invest in a completely new character.
I get what it's for. It just serves no purpose for me. i have no desire to rerun the story on my main unless it is a good way to get alt job experience. the story is the same whether i run it on an alt character or an alt job. but only one of those will give quest experience. ...i'm going to emphasize "for me". Which is why I can see the OP's point. You can find all the purpose in it you want.
Oh, I will. I want to see some of the solo fights again.
I'm in the same boat - my alts need story progress so it doesn't make sense to replay via NG+ at this point... the MSQ at any rate.I won't be using it anytime soon, but not because I can't level with it... I already have all but three jobs leveled.
I have a lot of alt characters that I have at different points of the story, so right now it doesn't make sense to do the story again. I am excited to be able to though.
Still, it will be great for things like job quests and side stories once they're available, since I don't unlock everything on every character.
(I'd love to replay the CT quests but all my characters have either done it already or aren't far enough into the game. Also it would be nice to not unlock it for once and hypothetically only get higher-level raids from the roulette, if I ever got the characters that far.)
There's also definitely an appeal to replaying it as my main character instead of having to be a different character going through the same motions each time. Heavensward and Shadowbringers in particular are quite "personal" and it's a bit odd replacing one half of a relationship between two characters.
Does there really need to be something else?
For job quests it will also be nice to be able to go through them one after the other without several levels worth of other stuff between each one. Removing the need to start each quest trying to remind ourselves what had been going on in the previous ones should improve the flow of the stories.
I probably won't use it, simply due to time availability. Haven't even started 5.0 yet. But, that very reason kinda has me interested as well. I'll often take breaks from story to level up extra jobs. Or, as mentioned, the leveling process can leave larger gaps between job quests. Would be nice to go through it all continuously.
Hell, maybe that's all it would take to actually get invested in some things. For the life of me, I still don't remember why I should be so broken up about Hachi-... Hatchoo-... whatever the hell that guy's name is.
I want to redo ShB tbh... I REALLY enjoyed it. Though I love the idea of thinking about how people spend money for MSQ skips but then they introduce this function so you can redo the MSQ. The benefit of course being you're leveled now and done all the things but the fact that there will be people who are liek "ughck" to the MSQ and maybe eventually go "ya know... I kinda wanna redo this". I also really liked ShB with all the light present.... It was an eerie feeling but it was actually kinda... cool? It reminded me of mmo's that have open world pvpve or have a world ending map that's going to be removed soon. I liked the feeling that everything was about to be ruined, for once a time that didn't truly look like it was going to have a happily ever after to it. Ahm Arang especially, the wall and how lit it was.. it was a spectacle. Terrifying and beautiful at the same time, the light particles in the air... just the general vibe the maps gave me with that bright light out was something that stirred the mmo explorer in me. I genuinely felt like I walked into an apocalypse and there was nothing I could do, it was all doomed. I want to experience that feeling again, the feeling of "oh right, I really am just an adventurer in the end...". Feeling like you're not the Mary Sue for a change.

I've been initially waiting for it to level the other classes and relive that way the story with another job in mind (basically an alter ego, that I'm leveling), instead of the mindless spams of potd or dungeons over and over again.
I'm at that point that I still prefer creating other characters to relive the story. That way, my alt has a story he/she grows up with.
Besides, making an alt allows me to design my character that way so it fits the class/job. With my main who's been a paladin and became a drk when things went south at end ARR/begin HW, I can hardly imagine being also a whitemage or a machinist... But this is another topic.![]()
Me i'll use it because the story is what makes ffxiv so great to me.I was really looking forward to leveling alt jobs with this. But...now we know we can't.
So my question is this;
Is anyone really going to use this?
I mean, sure it'd be nice to go back maybe a year or so from now to redo some of the final moments from ShB or HW. But, the real excitement for me personally was to be able to use this to level alts AND relive the story.
But, since it only has the function of...basically a glorified bedroom journal, who is the target for this?
I really feel it'd get more use from everyone if it simply offered EXP.
Am I alone in this?
