It's so weird. People like you and I are like "Hey, we get that you guys are cool with just reliving the story with no reward." That's fine. Have fun! I'm happy it exists and wouldn't want it to disappear. But people on the other side are all "how dare you expect EXP from an MMO. It's so strange.

Yeah. Somebody down there was talking about people spamming them to level. Which is pretty funny since the rewards are all level specific. There would be no point in running it over and over on the same job since the xp rewards would be sooo small it would take forever once you are past the level appropriate content. Not that this game has never made it so you only got bonuses one time per job before. And the people who complain about getting xp more than once from the same content, must not run roulettes or do the beast tribe quests.

I probably won't use it, simply due to time availability. Haven't even started 5.0 yet. But, that very reason kinda has me interested as well. I'll often take breaks from story to level up extra jobs. Or, as mentioned, the leveling process can leave larger gaps between job quests. Would be nice to go through it all continuously.

Hell, maybe that's all it would take to actually get invested in some things. For the life of me, I still don't remember why I should be so broken up about Hachi-... Hatchoo-... whatever the hell that guy's name is.

I want to redo ShB tbh... I REALLY enjoyed it. Though I love the idea of thinking about how people spend money for MSQ skips but then they introduce this function so you can redo the MSQ. The benefit of course being you're leveled now and done all the things but the fact that there will be people who are liek "ughck" to the MSQ and maybe eventually go "ya know... I kinda wanna redo this". I also really liked ShB with all the light present.... It was an eerie feeling but it was actually kinda... cool? It reminded me of mmo's that have open world pvpve or have a world ending map that's going to be removed soon. I liked the feeling that everything was about to be ruined, for once a time that didn't truly look like it was going to have a happily ever after to it. Ahm Arang especially, the wall and how lit it was.. it was a spectacle. Terrifying and beautiful at the same time, the light particles in the air... just the general vibe the maps gave me with that bright light out was something that stirred the mmo explorer in me. I genuinely felt like I walked into an apocalypse and there was nothing I could do, it was all doomed. I want to experience that feeling again, the feeling of "oh right, I really am just an adventurer in the end...". Feeling like you're not the Mary Sue for a change.

    So my question is this;

Is anyone really going to use this?

I mean, sure it'd be nice to go back maybe a year or so from now to redo some of the final moments from ShB or HW. But, the real excitement for me personally was to be able to use this to level alts AND relive the story.

But, since it only has the function of...basically a glorified bedroom journal, who is the target for this?

I really feel it'd get more use from everyone if it simply offered EXP.

    Am I alone in this?
Me i'll use it because the story is what makes ffxiv so great to me.

I can't imagine it would be all that much time and money wasted... all the content is already there, NG+ just provides a way to re-enable it. A lot of people never touch the cutscene journal in the inn, but I wouldn't call that a waste either.

They basically had to recode every quest in the game up to Stormblood to enable it, and put in a dynamic phasing system. That's a LOT of work, for a game that didn't initially have the framework for it, and was possibly only justified by having to redo ARR.

But I mean, I kind of understand both sides here?

On one hand, story focus or no story focus, FFXIV is still kinda supposed to be a game. The MSQ isn't exactly engaging to *play* and the plot pre-Shadowbringers is a series of shining highlights amidst a sea of tedium and drudgery, so the least it can do is offer some minor form of progression in the name of engaging the player to suffer until they see what the moments they're interested in.

The main stickler, and likely what the devs omitted exp for, is that giving exp would encourage spamming the shortest chapter possible for the biggest gains.

What they can do to stave this off is having like a weekly cooldown on the exp given for any story quest. If people don't have problems with solo players spamming dungeons slowly with trusts to get tomestones, they surely wouldn't have an issue with people clicking Alphinaud for five hours once a week for exp.

Okay, sure. Fine. But for, you know, a lot of people who play this game specifically, we like to have it on one character. To see it all filled out eventually maybe. That's what's great about it. It's not WoW where you HAVE to make 15 characters to experience all of the classes etc. You make one character and that's all you really have to do. That's one of the great things about this game.

The one problem is how soul-destroying it can be to level a new job sometimes. Like I said before; you can only do PoTD and HoH, the same low level dungeons back to back, so many times before you have to just...not do that anymore. FATES are dead, so that's not REALLY viable, so that leaves leves, which aren't terrible, sure. But, if I had a DREAM way to level, it'd either be through MSQ on a new job (same character) or make FATES relevant again. Because that was seriously so much fun back in ARR with everyone running around. The world felt more alive, I guess. But that's not what this post is about.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect EXP for doing QUESTS, is ultimately what I'm getting at. Any video game gives it for quests. Especially MMO's. So... I don't think it should be an issue.
If you don't see an issue with easily and freely spammable, higher-than-normal-EXP quests you've already completed before that mostly comprise of [go here > talk to one or two people and spam some dialogue / skip a cs or two that you've already seen before > quest completed], I'm glad that SE is the one in charge of the game and not you.

Leveling is already piss easy in this game, but that doesn't mean it needs to become downright insulting.

I haven't decided yet. I might wait until they bring in the ARR parts to go through with a different class I like.

I think that if they did enable xp for New Game+, they'd nerf the amount it gave so that it wouldn't be too easy (or exploitable) a method to level. The MSQ quests weren't originally intended to be repeatable... the xp they gave was to help someone keep their level up as they went through on their main job, and leveling alt jobs was always meant to be done in other ways.

And as Fynlar says, leveling is already extremely easy in this game as it is... with dungeons giving about a third of a level even in the 70s, with +30% xp accessories for 1-70, PotD and HoH being even faster options, I don't see a need for an even easier option than what we already have access to.
