Launcher closes as soon as I hit play on steam

No error no nothing. Just closes shortly after the game's logo appear.

I have attempted to do the IE settings the support is posting around but no change. I restarted, disabled the firewall, nothing.

Just unistalled the game. Launcher still does not open... Cannot change it to the old one, cannot use it in any way because it closes on it's own.

I got it to work. Steam is set to start the wrong version of the boot file....

I now have to start the ffxivboot64 every time, it seems.

But now it says my sub expired which is not possible. I renewed very recently.

I accessed XIV from the laptop without issues or workarounds. HOWEVER from my desktop not only do I have to use a workaround but it says that my service account is not usable. What is going ON

Okay turns out the steam version can only use the boot file that won't work and the other cannot work with my account. So what do I do now? I am locked out of my game!

I got it to work. There were VERY hidden files in the appdata path that had to be deleted. I'll download it all back overnight and see if it doesn't have the same issues others are having now...

If anybody else can't open the launcher at all, it's because of this! Search xiv in the appdata path and clear everything out. I did a reinstall after this but maybe you don't have to.

The " no valid service account" error you describe could be caused by changes made to the game launcher. If you are accessing the Windows version of Final Fantasy XIV through Steam, that error will appear. Due to a recent update, the Windows version of Final Fantasy XIV can no longer be accessed through Steam.
