No reason to criticize the way someone chooses to play the game.......

...........

.........UNTIL it is disruptive to other players' fun.

The vastly inflated MB prices Pre-5.1 was disruptive. You want anything at all, a crafted tool, armor, weapon, you pay tooth and nail for it. 100k, 150k, 200k+ it was simply ridiculous.

also, ARR and HW encouraged hard effort and grinding. which spurred a large amount of competitive hardcore players. (or as you would like to call them, “elitists” lol). so if you want to blame something, blame that. if FFXIV started off with SHB crafting back in ARR, .you wouldn’t even hear of people like us, promise you you wouldn’t. because we wouldn’t play this game, expecting the developers to listen to us, like we unfortunately have been doing the past year or so. but no more. it’s clear which player base they care about now.
Maybe such behavior was never intended to begin with and they just wanted a little challenge, but people took it too far, monopolies formed, and all kinds of bad stuff happened and they went "You know what, this is getting out of hand, we really need to nip this in the bud now."

just because you personally can’t or refuse to understand someone’s point of view, does not mean you’ve got to be so negative towards them. liam was just being honest, and I personally understand his frustration as an ex-hardcore crafter. but at this point there’s really no need to be upset since the developers don’t care for players like us, just gotta enjoy a different game now. (which i am gladly doing)
Having a point of view is fine, but it is all in the way such is presented.

He comes off with this "I am awesome and you suck" air when he talks about how everything should be measured against a challenge yardstick that nothing is permitted to be casual, blah blah and the way he posts, just drips of "I'm better than you because I got to the top first and stayed there" type junk that you see people doing.

See the thing about the crafting is it was never "hard" in the first place. If you got there early during ARR, got to the top.... staying at the top was infinitely easier than players who came later. It's always about who can dedicate more of their RL to getting there first and once you're there first, you get a huge boost. It's like Mario Kart and 5.1 is the Blue Koopa shell. Everybody hates the Blue Koopa shell, but a lot of game analysts admit that the mechanic is a necessity for everybody to have fun because it knocks the leaders out of the lead now and then to make them vie for the leadership position again.
