2p skin color change

I'm sure threads about this got made back when the last letter from the producer happened but every time I see a character who was established as having brown skin is now light skinned in FFXIV it's depressing and sucks out all my motivation

Like, it was one thing that take Viera and put them in FFXIV and then almost exclusively make every Viera NPC light skinned when the best known Viera character is dark skinned and from a village of dark skinned Viera. Like, that was depressing cuz it showed a bias that legitimately just sucks to see.

But taking an established character from another game, Soul Calibur, and making her skin light now... That's a deliberate act, and it makes it clear that previously focusing almost exclusively on light skinned Viera was a deliberate act.

This game already had problems of colorism, but when you make it clear that the colorism isn't just an unconscious bias but a deliberate choice, that hurts and it sucks.

Honestly, the dev team should apologize and fix this. As it is, it's hard to work up the motivation to touch the new content when I just keep being reminded of this stuff. It's depressing and demotivating.

Wasn't the 2P from Soul Calibur just a palette swap of 2B. 2B having very pale skin with white hair and a black dress, so the inverse of that would be tan skin with black hair and a white dress. In that case they aren't an established character, they were just a color variation. The same could be said about Dark Pit who originally was just a palette swap of Pit.

Additionally, this is a Nier raid, meaning everything is based on Nier. Stating the character is an "already established character" from another game, in this case Soul Calibur, isn't accurate to this topic.

Also to add to the Viera topic listed above. I am not too sure what you mean. Most of the Vieras in the game have tanned skin, Lyna included, Fran's skin tone is just very tanned by comparison. The only Viera we meet, at least that I am aware of, who has very pale skin is Sofie(spelling) from the Gunbreaker questline.

On one hand, I do agree that the skin tone doesn't match. SE's own store describes her figure as "with a darker skin tone as if she was tanned by the sun."

With that said, usually these sorts of "colorism" complaints are directed toward people ignoring the existence of other ethnicities. But in this particular case, it sounds like you're fighting for... "gurl ain't tanned enough." Ehhhhhhh probably not an argument worth making.

I hate to break it to you OP, but 2B originates from her own game. "Nier: Automata" and shes a light skinned android with white hair and a black outfit. Shes called 2P here probably to prevent problems with copyright or something. The color swap for hair and clothing as well. Also I dont recall many light skinned viera at all. Story wise, not players. As another poster said sophie is probably the only one i know of. Maybe you see a lot of light skinned viera because a lot of people play lighter skinned viera.

This again, eh? For starters, it baffles me that you don't simply assume that she has a tan in the first place - but then that wouldn't allow for certain people to get up in arms and subtly imply some very horrible things about the development team.

I said this in the previous thread and I'll say it again. Stop using western ideas of race and skin color on an eastern culture game. They do not and should not have bend their knee to every cultural idea that comes out of the western world. Just bc you perceive their actions to be anti brown does not mean that it is bc they are from a different culture. Doing so is just a tad entitled. And as people have pointed out, 2P wasn't an established character UNTIL ffxiv Nier raid. And as her soul caliber discription states she is tan from the sun. And I'm gonna go out on a limb she is a tan version of a white 2B skin color wise. Also if lack of representation from a Japanese company makes you not want to play this game then please log off and take a breather.
