    The New/Added Combat Sounds...Thoughts?

Re: New/Added Combat Sounds to Existing Voices

I know that the patch notes said that new voice sounds were added (or, at least, I'm fairly positive that I read about that somewhere in there). I hadn't really given it much thought - I primarily thought that maybe some new options were added to Character Creation, but never really went digging as to where they might be.

While I was out questing, I realized that they were new combat sounds added to the already existing combat sounds for each voice. I thought the different sounds were coming from another player at first, because they didn't sound anything like my character's normal sounds; but I was the only one present in the area where I was in combat...and that's when I realized that they were actually coming from my character. I went to my FC house to punch around on my Striking Dummy with no one else around to confirm that I was hearing things correctly.

Now, I'm not really wanting to be that person who complains about adding in new character customization options - I'm usually all for new/added/more options - but I have an issue with these new sounds that were added...

The new sounds are quite jarring compared to the combat sounds that had previously existed for my chosen voice. I've grown quite fond of my Miqo'te's voice (Option 2) over the last 4 years, and I can't say that I really like the addition of these new sounds. Primarily because the added sounds do not sound close to the voice option that I had originally picked (i.e., in terms of tone; some of the sounds are quite higher in pitch compared to the existing ones; it almost sounds as if there are two different VAs doing the sounds for one voice; etc.). I listened to the combat sounds of three of my friends (1 Female Hyur, 1 Male Miqo'te, and 1 Female Au Ra), and all three of them also had additional sounds that stuck out a fair bit from their pre-existing combat sounds.

The new sounds do not seem to affect the voiced emotes. It's just combat noises. Added "HA!" and "NYAH!" and "HI-YAH!" stuff.

Anyways, I was just curious what others thought about this addition/change, or if they had even noticed the new/added sounds. I have to say that, starting out, it's very different; and I feel fairly disappointed that this change was made...primarily because I've used this voice on my character for 4 years now, and I thought that it really suited her. With the new sounds, they don't quite suit her nearly as much; in addition to sound as if a completely different VA is doing them, and not sounding anything like the already existing sounds. I can't say that this is a change I like or want. I'd rather have just my original combat sounds...

Anyways, I just wanted to know what other people thought about this. Happy Patch Day!
