Villages of the Farreach - HELLSGUARD INSPIRED

VILLAGES OF THE FARREACH // Hellsguard Headcanon

Click above for the Doc !

I love how the Xaela got so much of these little lore-sprinkles with the info snippets on different clans. In continuation with my Ultimate Hellsguard Lore Guide, I present a few (4-5) canon-inspired fan villages in slightly-more-detailed Xaela description fashion!

Are there any that you enjoy? Any that you're curious about? Any that spark some cool ideas for your characters?

I don't know about Headcanons/Fan Creations in the Lore Forum. Wouldn't those be better off in General Discussion?

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

Ahhh, I hadn't thought of that since it's just in reference to the canon material... What's the best way to go about moving it? Just delete/repost?

Mods can move stuff, I guess?

Don't get me wrong, I really love your efforts and it's amazing to see how detailed and carefully you put things together... it's just a personal pet peeve that unconfirmed things are within the Lore Forum as Info Post (but hey, maybe the Lore team looks at that and gets inspiration, so that maybe, one day...)

They're welcome to move it if they see fit :O (please do if it's a problem with the rules!!!). I understand. I'm sorry if I've caused any kind of annoyance. I guess I got too excited and moved too quickly with posting what I had. Ever since I finished the canon lore guide I've been non-stop thinking about future inspirations. It's seriously a dream of mine to write Hellsguard stuff for Yoshi/SE/FFXIV you have no idea. D:

I have to admit, I'm a bit worried that someone might hastily read this post, and joyfully update the Final Fantasy wiki with the info. There's a lot of cringey misinformation there...

That said, folks DO use this forum from time to time to find real lore to plot out their RP plans. This isn't TOO different from that...

I think the difference is that in those cases they're asking "here is my idea, please apply canon lore to it", and this is more that there's a gap in the canon, so there's nothing to discuss except the idea itself.

I do think it's probably better to keep the lore forum for actual lore (or clearly-marked hypotheticals based on information we do have), but it's a bit hard when we don't have a "fanworks" subforum available.

At the same time, there are probably exceptions I'm not thinking of now, and it's probably all a bit hard and overly pedantic to police. Just mark the speculation as such, preferably in the title.

I don't think they're legally allowed to take fanworks and make it canon, especially detailed things, unless they've officially called for submissions (which tend to be narrow-scope, eg. the gear and furniture design contests) that state the creator is handing over that idea to SE. Otherwise it's an issue and they could be accused of "stealing" ideas or open themselves up to copyright complaints.

I was previously on the Insomniac Games forum (when that was a thing) and some of the developers were quite active - IIRC they said they actually can't read any fan story concepts to avoid this being an issue. That's for an American company, but I don't know if that makes a difference, or if it's just about where the game is released.

They could take on the general concept that "people want Hellsguard lore" maybe, but that's all.

I certainly didn't mean for any of my little creative writing to be "cringey misinformation"... I'm not trying to misinform anyone. I'm not entirely sure how much more in the post I could make it clearer that it isn't canon? I've mentioned "headcanon", "canon-inspired", and "fan villages".

(Besides, I don't think anyone really cares about the Hellsguard enough to update the wikis... None of the large guide that was written has been added to anything. I attempted to make an account on one of the wikis, but a lot of things are outdated and old so I'm hesitant to touch anything because I've never edited one before.)

I'm really feeling like I made a big mistake by posting this. I never thought this would turn into some kind of debate about what is and isn't okay to post. I tried to lie my intentions out clearly and was just excited to share some canon-based fan stuff with the community, but it's turned into a discussion that isn't at all about the intended topic... It's just fun to me. If it's better off just being removed, please tell me and I will. I didn't mean to cause a disruption.

I apologize if I wasn't clear. When I said "There's a lot of cringy misinformation there", I was referring to the wiki, NOT to your post. I very much understand that what you wrote is non-canon. What I'm worried about is someone who DOESN'T understand that, transcribing to the wiki. It probably won't happen - but take a look at the wiki. You'll see a lot of glaring inaccuracies there (at least for those of a lore-minded bent).

And don't get bent out of shape! I don't think folks are treating this as a big a deal as you think they are. Just some speculation as to whether it's forum-appropriate. And, to be perfectly honest, we've had a lot of posts a whole lot less forum-appropriate than this one. You're FAR from being on the road to becoming a pariah, here! Folks were quite pleased with your Hellsguard compendium, after all.

I don't think it's possible to change the title of a forum post, sadly, but don't feel like you need to ask for the thread to be removed.
