Crafting practice option..

Given all the changes, it would be nice to be able to practice crafting stuff without wasting a lot of materials. Make an NPC available that will let you select a recipe level, and you get a bag of materials like on a beast tribe quest. You can then try to craft HQ by various means, but the finished item can only be trashed, or vendored for 0 gil.

Like DrWho said, there are websites for this. I mean, they probably won’t be updated immediately, so you’ll probably have to wait a bit or sacrifice some mats to test out rotations. That’s what I’ll be doing.

I know of at least one website that is down wont be up until some time after 5.1. If you practice rotations or find them on websites you will have to wait until after 5.1. I got alch and cul to level still so going to use them for a bit of practice with the changes. But first I have not had a cup of coffee all day I am losing my mind!!

Weren't we all talking about proc based systems at the highest crafts? As far as I know, (the fact we shouldn't have to rely on third party sites aside) external websites don't let you practice reacting to procs efficiently in real time. The OP makes a fair suggestion.

I made my previous post before I saw the interview. So, yes, his suggestion would be great. Though, not likely to happen currently. Maybe in 5.2 or 6.0.

Some of Ishgard Restoration progress is done using materials provided by a supplier.

I'd assume there's probably some higher end stuff to mess around with since they mentioned there would be "challenging" crafts there.

One option might be a practice mode button in your crafting UI. With PM turned on, you get to run through the steps for any craft, but you use no mats, and produce nothing at the end. Make a bunch or dry runs until you get it right, turn off PM, and try it for real. No need for a special NPC in this case.

I practiced with Kai Shirr after unlocking him. And i cant do au'ra names, so i call the pig guy Ad-rock.
