This post is in regards to the server problems restricting players from accessing the game and also my personal questions and findings on the matter - which may help resolve it in the future.
Note: It's clear that the server problems are restricting many from playing and the main question is whether or not this has been acknowledged clearly and the solution is able to be implemented on the new architecture for 2.0 or not.
I'd hope this post stands as a request for feedback, so that we may know the origin of the problem and plans to remedy it.
If other players have feedback on the matter I'd like to request it be posted clearly and try to limit the amount of similar feedback.
What the problem is:
On my home network I cannot successfully patch through Square Enix's patcher client (This is due to my home network not allowing p2p (peer to peer networking). Upon patching via an external source and logging in I am met with a constant R0. This does not change at all. The game world will load local files but characters and so on are not present. The game will eventually time out into the 30001 error.
What I've done:
- When prompted to use the traceip function to test server feedback there were no errors, as with many others.
- I've tried various and dubious 'one-off fixes' listed on the forums; to no advantage or benefit.
What did work was buying a USB Mobile broadband unit. Which accompanies an expensive prepaid service for little bandwidth. While this was used as an experiment it has turned out to be the only way in which I may play the game. Albeit being expensive.
What we, the players, want made clear, and what we'd like confirmed:
While it is clear that these network problems have been acknowledged by the staff I've yet to see any follow-up on the matter. So I ask;
- Are these problems related to the current server architecture? Will it be fixed when 2.0 rolls out?
- What about those with home networks not supporting peer-to-peer? Are there plans to cater for those people? One could argue with the current affairs regarding the Internet and the global government with heavy influence on service providers could have a huge impact on our future player base.
As always, thanks to the team and community staff for doing their best to support a growing player base.
