I've got a nearly perfect, 1st try clear record (beyond the Nadaam and Thancred) with these story instances. I know how to play my WAR. And optional Moogle difficulty for them is fine with me cus it doesn't effect me, unless I choose it.

For those going on about how this will effect skill level in the DF, you can't be serious. You are making it sound like these are a gateway to dungeons or something. You remember group content is a requirement starting at level 15, right? LONG before we hit things like The Grand Melee. Stop being silly. These story instances aren't training, whether the player wants them to be or not. They're one-shots, only replayable with NG+. Let the moogles have their difficulty.
Because I'm genuinely curious? All we hear is cries of "Solo Zenos is too hard, plz nerf" and we never hear about gear levels, rotations, etc, and in the few cases we do hear about gear or rotations, it's usually sub-par gear and incredibly bad rotations.

I just want to see what the deal is.

Because I am a casual scrub who has never sent foot in a Savage duty, and only does EXs if I can unsync them, and I have a pretty bad reputation for wasting Limit Breaks when I'm trying to do literally anything else, and I haven't failed on one of these solo duties in the 6 years I've been playing.

    Colour me... morbidly curious.
As someone that has often needed to repeat solo battles, I got through most of the battles in the game before Shadowbringers by having Titan tank for me on SMN so that I didn't need to constantly dodge so I could focus on doing the dps needed to meet the dps check. I couldn't do this in Shadowbringers, but went RDM instead for the heal.

The difficulty for me comes from three inter-related aspects :

    DPS check timed requirements
Dodging aoe zones/finding a safe space to stand
    Doing a complex rotation

I find trust dungeons to be very difficult and nearly impossible to complete because it is super easy to get hit once or twice and die (or the healer gets hit and its a wipe)

I also never even attempt anything extreme or savage. Hell even Eden Normal is only something I did enough to get the weapon once. I still die every time, multiple times, to Titan because the movement requirements are so very exacting and tough to pull off when one is keyboard turning due to a medical disability.

I like the game for collecting things. Mounts, achievements, etc. I know I'm not very skilled at it so I can relate more to those who have the difficulty that those who this change will help than all those complaining about "deadweight".

See, this is what I was looking for - a well-explained rundown of difficulties people face.

I knkw SMN isn't an easy job to play too - it's my only Caster job that I like! It can indeed be a bugger to play.

The keyboard thing - have you tried changing from standard to legacy (or the other way around)? I play console so maybe that's a bit easier, but when I pull the stick back, I turn and run away, rather than walking backwards. Could be a thing?

Regardless, I'd like to thank you for this. While I don't agree so much with this option being added, I do know some people genuinely suffer, and to have it explained in a way that doesn't come across as whiny and entitled is refreshing.

You have yourself a great weekend now, y'hear?

Been some time since I've done one, but, I'd assume:

    1. Not playing my class in the roleplays. Not sure if I played my own character in any of them though.
    2. No action keybinds due to the roleplay. Trying to click the abilities and move around at the same time.
    3. Gear? I only had what the MSQ gave me, no materia. (Not sure if gear matters in these.)
    4. New to the game. (Started in January, played through all the MSQ in one run, no breaks, never played any other class.
    5. No idea. They were just impossible for me at normal difficulty, and a blockage to MSQ progress.

I was getting so frustrated at these, I was about to quit the game and return to WoW, until I discovered how Echo worked in a google search, and used it as a difficulty bypass.

This is a great thing for people who have physical and mental handicaps. I know of at least two people in my FC who are physically handicapped. One of them has a degenerative disease that has robbed her of a lot of mobility. (She used to be a hardcore raider for crissakes until this hit her.) She has a special rig to play the game with. We, her FC, can help her with things that require more than one player. But duties for the MSQ are often solo. Some she can do no problem, others are very difficult and frustrate her. She walks away from those, unable to finish the MSQ sometimes for weeks or months until we figure out a way to get her through it.

Can we please not assume that something (that doesn't affect anyone personally) is automatically a 'lazy' option? kthnx

It's great for my husband as well. He has a mental issue that can narrow his focus to just one thing, so dodging many AoEs can be near impossible for him when trying to get through solo quests. I've had to hop on his character and help him through it, until we can group up again.

If this is about the story roleplay battles, I'm all for it. The only way I can win those is to deliberately fail them until I get the echo buff, then complete. This will save me a lot of time to get these annoying scenarios out of the way.
I'd be happier if they just added a skip button.

I like this option. I don't find the solo MSQ duties as fun as dungeons or multiplayer content in general. I also didn't like the roleplaying duties mentioned a few times in this thread since they take me out of character and they have about 2 buttons to press. Thancred's was painfully long.

A change I'd like to see in addition would be to abolish the solo part of solo duties so that parties playing through the MSQ wouldn't have to disband constantly.

I am not sure. Maybe League of Legends made me change my view on certain things, but this will make Duty Finder parties even worse. The analogy to LoL is that people play Botgames until Level 50 (you need to be Level 3 to join PvP) and when they do, they are ridiculously unskilled because they played against the low-AI and think they know it all and make you lose because of that.

I mean, you have those instances which are only for you, but two quests further, you have the dungeons with a hard iLevel requirement where these players get stuck then. What is this logic? That is like driving automatic transmission on your own and think you are uber skilled and suddenly your party puts you on the driver's seat of a manual transmition. Oh, the stutters and stalled engines...!

My worst instance so far in that matter was the final fight with X'rhun. I retried four times, buying new equipment meanwhile. Winning this instance was a blast after I figured out what my mentor cat did (and what I failed at). A quasi-cheat is so underwhelming, innit?

About damn time. As someone who primarily healed in the past trying to heal undergeared tanks sucked.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
