Is that too hard to understand?
I mean, do you think the solo duty quests as they are now were meant to serve as a measure of competency? To me, that's not really the case (nor has it ever been). In my opinion, the purpose of them was more to showcase a cool battle or further the story with gameplay integration, not test to see if you're ready for endgame.

Most solo duties are already facerolls anyway-- you could *literally* AFK through the entire Hien roleplay instance and win. Putting in an easy setting will not suddenly flood your EXDR with ice mages more than it already has.

Well, I'm glad they're trying to be inclusive to people with lobotomies I guess. :v

I know also people well over 60 years old enjoying this game thoroughly. They don't mess with content they feel unable to do, like some extremes, savage, ultimate, raids, they do pull their weight in the easier duties they partake, and personally I am happy that the elders of the tribe can enjoy FFXIV too.
In any case, I dont think that having different difficulty modes for main storyline solo duties is something to jump at with pitchs and forks, honestly...

By the Twelve, I just witnessed a murder.

On the serious side though, yes this is great for those who have actual problems with certain mechanic-heavy instances but if such a heavy nerf is necessary, how did they get to those fights in the first place and how do they expect to clear content that cannot be tuned down? And for those who just want to steamroll a fight they've done already, ok cool I guess but they already were steamrolled on regular difficulty.

Some people just want to see the story, do FATEs, and talk to friends, or use Trusts to run dungeons. Not everyone is trying to put themselves in group content.

Do I think they are meant to be a measure of competency?

Well, kinda, but more no than yes.

I don't think it should be used as a deliberate gate for players, but at the same time, I would expect it to be a kind of "test" of the abilities and skills that are NOT directly related to roles.

Like, avoiding certain AoEs, acting appropriately to certain mechanics, that kind of thing.

A deliberate yardstick? No. A refresher test, based on what you have been experiencing so far? Yeah, maybe.

But is lowering an already low floor the answer to this?

How about instead having rewards for Stone, Sea, Sky? Expanding the Hall Of Novices and giving rewards based on how well you do?

Work at improving the experience for everyone, not lowering the bar.

Enjuden, this is not just a purely multiplayer game as you think it is. There are tons of content for single-player, and this should allow for various difficulty settings for such content. It's not for you to judge how difficult or how easy SP duties should be for other players. Also, you're being extremely disrespectful to people who don't like difficult content.

But... they weren't difficult to start with...

Also, I don't like EX or Savage stuff either, and I agree with that dude.

Personally I see no issue with their being a low skill floor, but as long as it doesn't lower the skill ceiling too. This particular change doesn't affect the skill ceiling... And honestly I think, if SE decide to do it, it could be a win in the other direction, they don't have to make solo encounters as easy in normal mode in future... Or they could add harder modes too. So I think I could be an opportunity to work both ways.
