I think the 2-3 day spawn was a lil outrageous but I also don't want to see half the freakin server with Ridill's. The ff12 idea would be sweet if we all had our own timer i agree. Sorry im sure there is much better gear in that game by now but when I left that was a pretty sweet sword to have.

Actual HNM camping in my opinion this should not be ballanced for casual. It should be made only for hardcores. (other nm spawns and such can be more casual (force spawn and such)). But the game needs 20-74hr spawns if they want to make the hardcores happy.

The casuals will never like this system, they flocked to WoW because this system was in place in older mmos and it was the focus. But on the flip side most hardcore gamers who still had the time didn't leave to go to WoW or left soon after. WoW only had ~60% mmo market share there is a reason there was not more and do not forget most WoW players started mmos with WoW they were not taken from other games.

The trick to implementing hnms is doing this without screwing over the casuals.

Make all drops from NMS Rare/EX (non-sellable counters RMT). Make all drops from HNMs also drop from instance/force spawn bosses (No competition/forced camping for those who do not want it). Make the spawn times actually random, spawn areas really large, or require non-player controllable scenarios to happen. (counter camping to a large degree)

This is what most hardcore people want. NO ONE myself included really wants old XI again, I think everyone agrees that model is dead. But we want some of the hardcore elements done in a way that does nothing to hurt casuals. It will give us something to do outside the dungeon/raid spam.

You want to make a good mmo. STOP TRYING TO MAKE CONTENT THAT MAKES EVERYONE HAPPY it is impossible. And start adding content for everyone. Add content that casuals hate but hardcores love. Add content that hardcores hate but casuals love. Everyone has something in the mmo they really like there for everyone is happy. Really simple concept...

SE needs to do what they said they would do. Create a theme park. Something with rides for everyone. (or in mmo terms content for every play style)

Some people hate roller coasters, some people love them.
Some people hate bupper cars, some people love them.
Some people like the carnival games, some people just walk by them.
and so on and so on.

That is the thing a true theme park has stuff for everyone it is why you see such a variety of people. Atm mmos are keeping us restricted to the frog pond game and spinning tea cup ride... and wondering why huge groups of people stop coming back to play.

What on earth is so hardcore about waiting 72 hours for a mob to appear? >_>a ....hardcore for me would be a mob that is always there and looks bad-ass and requires atleast 30 people to kill with the best gear/skill

a chance to claim a monster is so hardcore... Yeah, I know I haven't killed many NMs in XI because it was a tough luck spawn point. It's not about bad luck most of hardcore players would think but I am not going to bother with it even if it's for 20-74hr. Perhaps, I would do it. Perhaps... no. Do you think Free Companies should keep business rather than standing waiting for a pop?

you sound like you are against how they are doing the free company summon system because its to hard for "scrubs" to claim?

Let them discussing their wishes here, and for myself I would love to see any HNM in 2.0 as the rep has mentioned a long time ago.

There's no need to be mean, you are just jc.
So does it make me against HNM? No, I would love to do it with 30 players or whatever you wish even if I have MY time and not yours. Everyone has different opinions on FFXI content and other MMOs. XIV really needs to be its own idea and not copying others too much even if you haven't tried alpha. Like someone said, beta is the only way we can make our ideas and not being a dick because you are a hardcore player who take your time with the game for no good reasons.

Again, any words on news the dev team confirmed there will be the HNM (not NM) spawn system?

I really agree with this thread, one of my favorite parts of FFXI was hunting for NM's. The worst part was the long timers, i would like to see those lowered. 24 hour spawns are kind of too much. Maybe like 8 hours at the most and 15 mins at the least. It would be cool if you could put materia on the gear that drops from them also, maybe for a very low chance so its rare. But that would have people wanting to kill the NM's more to enhance themselves more.

I'm really not a timer person so I'd rather NOT have anything with 7-15 hours spawning time around unless it's that active time event stuff where everyone can participate and actually gain something from it.
Although the idea quoted in the first thread with the registration NPC is okay too I guess :x

Something I love though is all kinds of spawning conditions for monsters. Like a certain NM only spawning if you have used meat-type food, only during certain weather, etc.
I'm happy to see the dev team thinking about this

Please do try and share your insight to better method(s), especially when we know we will have more open world content, where tens, and maybe hundreds of players can be fighting the same boss/nm/event.

Your time spend on doing the above will be much more constructive, then your failed attempt to insult people's intelligence.

And please do remember, while you "try" to help us low-intelligence people to understand why your method is better, that SE is also reading what we write, so they will need all the positive and negative aspects of different methods that we may bring to light on the subject matter. Another way i was thinking they could implement a nice HNM system would be introducing the element used in FFXII to hunt NM's or Marks as it was called there. You could introduce the Hunting Clan and reward NM hunting with achievements and other goodies while making some lore that this clan came together as a need to Hunt NM's causing havoc post Umbral Era. These could be done solo, duo, trio, etc. so small groups are only needed for them.

Also for Free Companies you can have the Elite Marks and make it a challenge for bigger groups. These could be introduced as a way to eliminate HNM's that aren't causing trouble yet but will be a hazard for the people of Eorzea if left unchecked.

Maybe have dragon sightings and other phenomena occur (credits to Hirmu) when these HNM's are in the vicinity, so players can have an idea when they are about to pop. I think that would add to a more interactive, rich and alive world experience without endangering people doing other activities in areas where HNM will manifest as they will not pop without a Free Company luring them to combat.

The system could be Tier based having Free Companies clear through tiers and always having the option to do previous ones without having to clear everything again from scratch. As for how many times you can do them: Could make a timer for it per Free Company or could make it so that certain HNM's only have a window of hours before the Elite Mark is removed from the Clan Bulletin Board. No need to claim bulletin board either for the mark as could have any Free Companies take a bite at it while the Mark is up for the taking in that window of time.

For the battles to be exciting and interactive i think keeping people moving around would be the way to go as the ARR removed combat lock. I.g. have a dragon cue he is going to use a move when he retreat its wings, when it lifts his head above usual that sort of stuff. Of course that doesn't have to be done for every move but for the ones you know you should seriously move or you'll be in danger.

As for rewards obviously some nice gear drops, achievements, maybe some sort of credit for the company as a whole (and add some something cool to display at the Free company housing to buy with those credits) and personal credits as well.
