Make sure HNM drops some rare/ex items so it probably won't be more RMTDramaNews. RMT hunting for NMs is worrying me like they have no life though.

competitive aspects of old ffxi are the things that built that game. I dont care what the crybabies say. Ill be sure to bring this up alot in beta testing. If you cant camp an NM or you are busy in real life well that sucks i guess??? Its really not SE's problem is it? We all know the ppl who dont want it just simply dont like a competition yep I just said that. Yes bots do suck but they can get rid of em. Buck up ppl and dont turn this into another pop culture crap game that will blow up in your face.
It would be a problem for most of causal players. Sorry to say, Square Enix do need more players though. Like I said, even if HNMs drop some ex/rare items so it would make you not to do it same again and again for same items you already have while most of us also need to kill it. RMT also can't sell ex/rare items.competitive aspects of old ffxi are the things that built that game. I dont care what the crybabies say. Ill be sure to bring this up alot in beta testing. Idea of FFXII NM Hunting, it would be nice if it has a reset timer after you killed your own HNM pop so you don't have to sit down and waiting for hours/days.
I think the 2-3 day spawn was a lil outrageous but I also don't want to see half the freakin server with Ridill's. The ff12 idea would be sweet if we all had our own timer i agree. Sorry im sure there is much better gear in that game by now but when I left that was a pretty sweet sword to have.
Yes, THIS. Thank you. Competition can make a game great. I AM a casual gamer. I KNOW that I don't have 2-whatever hours to spend camping nms. But I still want that there, because it raises the stakes, drives up the competition, and that drives up the fun. And maybe one day when my kids are finally sleeping lol, I'll have the time to spend camping these nms.competitive aspects of old ffxi are the things that built that game. yep, i mean the time you take to get the gear, then you get to maybe save a little time leveling with it, or kill things a little faster. you don't have to have it. when your gearing up in any mmo ..usually that gear is only good for that type of content anyway. it's not like you put it on at rank 1, you wear it at merits or cap raises or endgame. it's something for the people who devote more time to play. and not having this type of content is what is killing mmo's.
if ffxiv started off with something similar to sky. the game would of flourished even with all the problems.
Would love to see HNMS make a return. SE needs to do certain things with it though.
1) Be better at catching bots (they failed hard core in XI with it). Have the special task force actually research bots that are out and how they work and try to devise ways to counter them. Nothing is perfect but the way it was handled in XI was poor. Someone non-stop fishing for 14 whole RL days in a row would not be banned and hardly ever further investigated.... really. That and the same person / small group of people claiming a mob 50+ claims in a row with large amounts of competition should of also been a give away.
2) Make it were it is optional content (Rewards should be in instanced zones as well) This will make it were those who are completely against camping mobs are literally not effected by it. (See FFXI King drops (Hnm spawn) and Einherjar (instance content) for an example). So say you kill King Behemoth in XIV 2.0 it drops D.Ring, make that a rare drop from say Bahamut's Labyrinth as well. Win Win here for everyone.
3) Make the spawns more random. Sandworm, Kings, and Dark Ixion were not intended to be camped. But they spawned at set times and people did it anyways. People camped mobs that took 72hrs to spawn, this only happened though because we knew windows and were the hnm would spawm. Make the spawns trully random (simple random number generator really) they can spawn 1 sec after death or up to X hours/days/weeks. make the spawn area truly massive like Black Shroud... anywhere in the blackshroud outside nooby areas (hnm takes the place of another mob). This will make it were camping it is near impossible, people would literally have to do nothing else... should be a big enough deterrent.
4) Bring back non-time spawn nms. XI was loaded with 100s of forced spawns... there should be no complaints at all about this. The top nms in the game were forced: Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Warden.
GREAT thread OP! best thread ive read all.... forever maybe!

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~
I love this idea, I'm all for it
I love the idea of HNMs but they are inherently problematic:
HNMs that drop great/the best gear mean that there will be a great demand people will want that gear :-
- If the gear(s) are tradeable/sellable then RMT will want a piece of the action.
- If the gear(s) are rare/ex people will still want them. HNM Linkshells will try to monopolise the claims.
The problem with FFXI HNMs (namely the Land 'Kings') was the overbearingly long timers 24~72 hours.
- This meant that RMT would camp 24/7 with bots to claim
- HNM LSs would use bots to claim, or monopolise with secretive kill times/pop slots.
- The 20~24/68~72 hour pops would mean that the pop window would remain in an often unrealistic slot for your time zone. i.e. it may fall into a 3AM-7AM time, when you just couldn't play, and stay there for several windows. Ultimately making the practical pop time for you to be more like once or twice per month.
~ Ultimately these factors diminish the opportunity for the majority of players to experience this content. ~
Lessons learnt from FFXI was to make the sellable drops from NMs and HNMs drop from instanced content
- Example: Leaping Lizzy = moved Leaping boots in BCNMs and Bounding Boots (RR/EX) drop from her. This reduced the incentive for RMT (or opportunist players) to constantly camp the same NM/HNM over and over.
Lesson yet to be learnt from FFXI is to reduce the spawn timers!
(Granted they have made many kings force spawn, and they are not longer in as much demand... but the point still stands. e.g. Argus)
That many NMs in FFXIV have a 5 minute respawn really made me very happy, and I think is one of the best things about his game so far. It has really opened up the world of NM hunting, and allows you to not have to waste endless hours waiting for insignificant NMs to pop. You just wanted a kill for the achievement? No worries, aside the travelling time, 5 min max wait and the skill to kill it and done. Want a drop? Well a little more persistence required, as the drop rates are not he best, but hey, at least it's not a 24 hour pop rate, for a piece of lvl 20 gear.
So why drop the respawn timers of HNMs for "Great/Best" gear?
(NB:: I am NOT suggesting a 5 minute respawn for HNMS!)
I suggest then (as also mentioned up above somewhere), that any HNMs implemented are on a much smaller timer, like 6 hours. While this may not stop HNM Linkshells trying to monopolising drops, it would at least increase the opportunity of other players to be able to enjoy the content of an HNM fight, and the possibility of their spoils, without having to wait for a once a month opportunity to even claim it. Watching the fight from the side is not even half as much fun.
I love the idea of the Arena - i.e. Kill it once, be able to summon it in an arena to fight it. Doesn't even have to drop anything, sometimes it's just fun to fight big bad dragons etc.
Appropriate instanced versions would also be a great idea (Think KCNMs, Voidwatch, or Sky pops, or something else new)
TL; DR =
- Make HNMs maximum of 6 hour respawn rate.
- Make HNM drops rare/ex.
- Offer non-RR/EX drop equivalents in instanced versions.
- Keep normal NMs 5 min respawn.
