Yeah I get that Patriach, I'm just saying if they add more they should at least make sure to add in a few force popped ones. :P

Oh most definitely. I spent so many weeks, probably months farming pop style NM's. Farming Alkyoneus and Pallas, and other force pop NM's called for a fun and fair environment that brought fun and great reward if you stayed at it for long enough. It's this kind of engaging, albeit time consuming content that kept me subscribed to FFXI, because I always had something to go do.

Where were all of you like 8 months ago when I said all of this same stuff?
I 100% support properly done open-world NMs, with item-based pops being my favorite.
Put the items as a very rare drop on ALL mobs, or all mobs in a specific ZONE, or a specific DUNGEON. Take the item, gather your friends, pop the NM, get some cool loot/crafting items/etc.
Lottery pops are also cool. As are timed pops, just don't make the timers too ridiculous, maybe every few hours. The whole "zomg call everyone to log on ASAP because a 7 day spawn is up" experience is something that should've died back in the 90s. Everything doesn't have to be instanced, but we should be able to dedicate a reasonable amount of time to going out and hunting an NM or two with our LS and actually, y'know, see an NM or two.
Please do it right and give us at least a few that take about an hour with 16ppl to kill. Something that takes the community at least a couple of weeks to see a world first kill. Something truly challenging. I could really care less if the gear dropped is simply a sidegrade from Darklight, crafting mats, materia, whatever.
We keep hearing about content for "hardcore," players, but we've yet to see any.
I will say I'm enjoying the game quite a bit currently and think it's headed in the right direction, this is just one of the gripes that's been rather prevalent amongst the "endgame," community.
Well, since we now know that this thread is making its way to the Dev's, lets try to organize and fine-tune the ideas we have, and continue to bring fresh new ideas to the table.
If you have anything that you feel needs to be edited, or revamped please let me know. If you have any ideas that you feel should be heard, please post them.
Also, I am going to be busy for the next couple of days. If someone could type up a good in-depth, yet slightly brief, detailed note on our "FFXII-ish Mark Board" idea for NM/HNM's, that would be awesome. Something nifty I can add to the OP.
What I have so far:
Would be very cool to be able to have a centralized spot in all major cities (possibly minor outlying cities eventually) that have boards with certain marks that can be accepted by players. These Marks can be as simple as killing lower level NM's, and as you complete marks you can work toward killing large, more vicious marks.
Would be neat to have random, secret marks pop up at random in various cities, that require you to pay for "secret information" leading you to mysterious, rare, and powerful marks (HNM's).
Would also be cool to have Certain Mark Boards that require parties, and possibly alliances built in order to accept certain Marks due to difficulty levels.

Let me state something. Since I've been reading the last 15 pages some of you are at each others throats. So let me make something clear since I've been on both sides of the field in MMO's.
Appeal to everyone and your community will thrive. I'm not saying give everything to everyone, but give something to everyone. Give hardcore players what they want, while keeping some content instanced. Don't make the entire game over world mobs, but make some of it. Let's face it if you looked at mmo's it would probably look something like this. Hardcore players put in more time, while casuals pay more money through multiple characters etc. In this game it doesn't have as big of an impact yet, but casuals normally pay for all the crazy fluff stuff in games etc. So like I said keep everyone happy.
Involve some overland HNM's, some forced spawn HNM's, Primals, more instanced raids. Have some of it all and you will have a happy and thriving community. Or we could go the way of SW:TOR and Rift and games like it, and be dead very quickly. Their way was just to throw easy instance content out consistently and everyone got bored and quit. Before people start freaking out, no one way or the other is wrong. In fact having all the ways is perfect, so do it. Competition will always suck people back in, and the desire to be better or better geared will keep people playing. This is how you run a great MMO and make money. Otherwise you're just like the rest, a quick money making scheme that lasts a year.
The fact that Developers read forums in this game and are responding is HUGE. If you haven't played other MMO's you won't understand why this is such an amazing thing. They have my undying respect for that, it's a very rare thing. I quit the game design industry because it's all about money, it's not about the product anymore. Working for a company like this must be an honor in this industry.

I to would like to see a mark system like from ff12. That mark system was a pretty huge time sink for me and was lots of fun. I also wouldn't mind seeing figurines like what was introduced in 11 as rewards for doing the mark. Example: Defeat the mark "Adrammelech, the Wroth" report back after you beat him. The npc that issued the mark says "Thanks for defeating that evil mark for me! It isn't much but please accept this token of gratitude!" "You receive one bad ass looking "Adrammelech, the Wroth" statue". Gear for those that wanna do the mark and a little something extra to collect!
Would be kinda neat (pending we can customize our Inn-Rooms, like Mog Houses, in FFXIV) to be able to walk into your room and see your statues of all the HNM's you have conquered. This would appease our crowd who would like certain NMs/HNM's to drop trophy items!I to would like to see a mark system like from ff12. The Mark system as well seems really cool. I'll work up a more detailed post on it, and try to incorporate it into the OP if I can tomorrow, unless someone can beat me to it. Even if it was a Time Sink, it sounds awesome thinking of picking up a Mark Hunt, and heading out trying to track down a certain HNM with your party. Then you finally find it, pull it and start going to work trying to take it down. Then bring it back to town to reap your rewards (Some nice loots/exp/money?)
Definitely interested

all the dev have to do is just take a look at FFXI and see what's been going during all these years of service and improve on it. open world HNMs are part of the world's lore, they are huge and should be so strong that it can't be easily camped and farmed regularly.
and from some of the respond here, the players are more worried about the sort of loots HNM would drop. just like the other thread about open world vs instanced content, if the player base sees that a certain content as a better way of getting better gear over the other, nobody will be bothered to do the other contents.
the good thing about FFXI and FFXIV is that stats from gears acts as a bonus and won't have too much of a impact to a player's ability to play what the game has to offer (unlike wow and swtor). unique loots from open world HNM at most would provide certain 'Enhance <ability>' traits or weapon/armor skins that players can't obtain elsewhere, such items are nice to have but won't break the game and provide bragging rights to egoist
