I'm not sure why people would want this:
Roaming Dragons.
Giant Beasts.
High Respawn Timers.
Amazing Gear.
There's no skill to be gained from having more time to spare then others, which is really all it comes down to. Was Team A really better then Team B cause Team A could spend 12hrs waiting for a spawn while Team B could only spare 6? The whole idea behind 14 is to do away with the unnecessary time sinks which kill the fun of the game and only cause rifts between the community as well as create dead times in a game in which you would want to be active and actually doing something. there's really no need to bring a concept like this into the game. Why wait for something to spawn, when you could easily do something as simple as this.
Use guild leves as a means to obtain rare spawn items for unique roaming creatures. Rather then one set point for a spawn, create lore within the towns that give you hints of the current location of the beast based on the rumors going around. To make it a tad trickier make it where some NPCs may lie. It's better to create a concept for HNMs that's more active rather then one that makes everyone passive just waiting for the encounter to happen. Do real adventurers wait for a best to appear in front of them or do they hunt and seek out that which they want to conquer? The idea behind finding said beast could be easy to.
You obtained "gnawed tusk" from a leve that has distinct teeth marks which others may know about. When you go into the outside towns and talk to the NPCs, you'll be given the option of "Discuss gnawed tusk" which will then prompt them to give you input on the item and either direct you to another NPC, direct you to a location, or lie to you. From this point each NPC would have to be analayzed for their personality and how they react to each KI for each mob spawn. The experience would allow hardcore players to map out the behaviors of each NPC so that they can have an edge on finding the spawn point while the casual will have to take more time in discovering the location. Rather then create a respawn timer for said creatures there could be a fatigue for anyone involved in fighting the HNM, since it's an HNM I think it's only fair to say that fighting such a beast would put stress on the party would it really make any sense if they were able to just continue spamming the same best over the period of 2-3hrs?
But ya I"m just saying there are more active ways to create an HNM system, it doesn't need to be a carbon copy of 11, the whole concept behind respawn timers is to create an unnecessary time sink and judging from the current path of 14 I'd say they are attempting to do everything in their power to create unnecessary sinks which cause players to idle in wait for an encounter with an NM.
In short, some of us liked the thrill of the camp, the claim, and the drop - even if nobody was around. I spent countless hours farming random NMs not so I could sell a drop (most were R/E by the end) but because I wanted to collect them all because, to me, that kind of thing is rewarding. Sitting around in town and having someone say "Holy balls! You got that to drop?!" was a kick. It doesn't matter that most of the gear was useless - it was all about the fun of actually doing it.
Don't like it? No problem! I don't like the idea of seasonal events but I get a kick out of people having fun with them. So don't take a dump on an idea just because you don't like it. Hell, I still think Freddy Got Fingered is a cinematic masterpiece (it actually posses more elements of what people consider to be "fine cinema" than Citizen Kane - no joke) but I don't freak out if someone doesn't like it. At the same time, I think Twilight sucked ass but I don't rip on people who enjoyed it.
"First you learn to get along. Then you learn to go along."

It comical because it has an equal chance of occuring in instanced situation, but you use it as to justify why HNMs should not exist and instances should. Thus, its comical that you so blatently use it as an arguement against one, and turn such a blind eye to it for the other. Your use of it to support an anti HNM arguement is the true definition of falacy.
To be completely honest, those who do want it, don't need you to understand why. I dislike instances in general, but thats just me. My only serious issue with instances is that they are currently limited to 8. But, I do not question anyones desire for instanced content.
This is quite true. HNM's can be involved in Instances. But we all known how exciting the current instances are. NM's work quite will in the instances we have now, I for one enjoyed fighting Bertraal for the first time. But its the obligatory lack of content.
Instances like Dynamis, Limbus, Einherjah incorporated NM's well. There is no reason why people who love instances can't level with the ones who love Open-World style fights. They can coexist despite whatever reasonings you come up with that one or the other should be the only type of fighting.

Nah, terrible idea. Anything that reward open world camping for the best stuff just makes for problems. nothing good could ever come of this.
And fk FFXI, seriously. This is FFXIV not FFXI-2.
I will not heed your worthless cries.
By that logic we should remove all references to FFXI. All the jobs should be cast aside and we should have unique classes like Conjurer and Thaumaturge. Oh wait - they did that and people had a conniption fit. Maybe you should rephrase what you mean more clearly and say "I did not like this aspect and disagree it should be implemented in the game for xyz."
Also, by your initial statement, it appears you would be fine if the items were non-essential, is that correct?

Again stop pretending that this game failed because it tried to be different it failed because it was rushed to launch, the servers were/are crap, the UI was/is unresponsive.
It certainly isn't because of the names of classes. LOL's
This is somewhat what we have been asking for from Primal battles and it has been met with a 50/50 split, I wouldn't expect to see a token system for open world NM's if we can't get it for instanced ones.

Or perhaps you should come to the realization that gaming is exactly as I described it, a hobby/entertainment source designed to kill time. I.E. timesink. Don't make the mistake of confusing that with the insinuation that gaming is somehow lesser than any other hobby. Just that all hobbies are by nature a way to burn free time.
On another note, I feel compelled to point out that the HNM pop windows served a purpose. By making it 21-24 hours it eventualy caused the spawn time to rotate so it wasn't constantly spawning durin JP prime time.
Something on a 8 hr timer with a 15 minute window could spend a lot of time popping around 5 PM EST, effectively locking players further west out unless they were able to hold out til 11 PM their time. We all hated camping, but there was a little method to the madness there.
I'm not advocating windows either, just saying that something would need be done to compensate for their one good trait.
