I'm not sold on that.
Twice as much product, but also twice as many buyers.
It should even out overall,
except that the less common items will show up more often, or if you're selling one, it will actually sell.

Make it happen.
why in the world are you buying electrum ore at 50k? First rule of economics may be to buy low, sell high, but people selling raw materials at those kind of prices are just robbing you blind. It suggests that there might be a small number of high-level miners on your server, and are selling high due to demand. (By comparison, electrum ore is on average between 2,500 to 6,000 gil on Mysidia, and even the +1 ore starts at around 25k) Lux_Rayna has the right idea: level miner, any mats you can gather will help you cut costs, plus you can sell your surplus for good money.
My main craft is also GLD. I made a bit of gil on the patch but I also spent it ... I do a lot of price searching and found that it was almost as cheap to just buy a +1 black pearl choker then to make one, so that's what I did, 300k to some other GLD.
Regardless of if it was the newly patched job or not all crafting is fundamentally the same, you buy low if you can and sell for the best price you can, but you are not the only one so of course there is undercutting.
The only reason a high profit can be made in this instance is because AF gear was released at the same time, so you had a choice. Go get AF fast because so many are doing it, or heel back and make Gil and take longer to get AF in a week.
If you wanna sell your rings at 400k, Ill make a goldsmith level 50, Ill gather the HQ materials with my miner and make that ring myself or at least ask a friend to do it for me.
That will take me less time than farming 400k for every one of my accessorie gear.
I will agree that the prices on HQ items is stupid though, Electrum ingots+1 on Cornelia cost 100.000 gil per item right now...
the ammount of sellers mean nothing if the items arent selling instantly
and thats the problem, we have some really stupid sellers
50 rings go up for sale per day, 50 sell per day, by this thought, they shouldnt go down in price right? well wrong
50 rings go up, and even if they will all sell by days end, the sellers are in such a hurry to sell them a few minutes quicker that the price gets cut in half so that player B can sell his ring an hour before player A does, even if it means he must make less money in doing so
Now imagine this with 100 rings going up per day, yes they may sell faster, but since it isnt instantly, itl continue to hold the same problem but at an accelerated rate because people really are that stupid
My XIVPad: http://xivpads.com?2031148
That's exactly what I did. Prices are so dam stupid cheap (considering the prices of +1 materials) that I actually bought the new jewelry +1 even though I COULD MAKE THEM.
Thank you for bringing up that point.
So, basically..I'm a GSM and it is my only trade skill. I have no level in any DoL. I make profit and I'll give you a few tips.
First: I have a spread sheet of mats I use and know the high, low, and average. I also have a spread sheet of the items I sell. My spread sheet tells me what I have to sell, at current market value, and I quickly know if it is worth my time to sell it.
Second: NEVER EVER EVER EVER fill you vendor with one item. You put 3 or more of the same item on you vendor, you are asking to be undercut. If you put 3 or less and update your vendor regularly, the competition doesn't panic then. They see your few items and feel no need to undercut you; they think you'll be sold out soon.
Third: Rotate stock. Electrum rings not selling? Either turn them into materia and sell that or save for when your competition runs out of stock. Put something else up that has few people selling it.
Forth: Sell materia bind gear. People are too afraid of loss to make it, so little competition.
Fifth: Custom orders. You can put in your search you are a GSM for hire. When I'm crafting to refill my retainer, I always put I'm for hire in my search. I get hired every now and then... and people generally tip well.
I've made tons of profit as a GSM and I'm not even 50 GSM yet. I've only leveled on selling things that make me profit. It can be done.
If you want to make gil, then like a good business person, you need to have a business plan.
Or like someone I know, buy and horde mats when you know a patch is about to land that will make goods made with those mats popular.
I'm like the opposite of the OP. I don't have a L50 craft, but I do enjoy gathering.
This is where BARTERING can be quite handy!
Most of the mats i mine up (HQ's and whatnot) I give to my LS mates for FREE!!! About 10% of what I don't give to my buddies I will actually sell for pure profit. This doesn't require thought because if our crafters are seeking it, then it's a good bet that those items are "in demand".
When I need new gear or anything, I have an entire shell full of grateful "business partners" who will make my stuff for free! YAY!![]()

The prices for most of the craft-based items already sunk due to all these craft-"botters", this did hurt the economy quite hard. Its like someone gets punished for not botting.
Da brat' mir doch einer ein Chocobo!
