I'm not sure how it would be compensated, but I'm sitting on a lot more gil than that.Let's just take this serious for a second - How is this going to work? Just remove all the gil from one day to another? What about the folks who played for years and earned a steady amount of gil? Speaking of maybe 50m / 100 m / 200m. Are they just losing it? With no compensation? Just bad luck for hours and hours of gathering, crafting and MB caluclations?
.
I literally have nothing to spend it on.
The most I've spent this expansion is maybe 2-2.5 mil on a crafted 450 set.
It seems kind of pointless.
So... how's MB gonna work without gil (or in general terms: tradeable currency) then...?
Well, MB seems to be, generally speaking, broken down in the following catagories.
1. Gear
2. Mats
3. Crafted items (Housing furniture, meals, potions etc)
With the exception of high end crafted gear, you can already buy all the gear on the MB from vendors.
And what you can buy from vendors you also get simply from doing quests.
Same goes for mats, most of the older stuff you can get from vendors, current stuff you have to farm.
Housing furniture can simply be moved to beast tribe vendors and sold for their currency.
That just leaves a few vanity items on the MB (mounts, minions)
So the MB seems kind of redundant.
Of course removing the MB would pretty much make crafting obsolete, and I rather enjoy crafting.
Reuse has killed the value on anything that requires drops from primals/trials, so I'd blame that skill in particular.
Or they should give us GW2 marketplace and block gil sending/giving and block taking gil from company bank.

I think this is how it works in Path of Exile.
The thing is once you remove gil people will start using a common item as the equivalent of gil.
If Crit VIII is worth 50k gil, then people will start using Crit VIII as the new currency, selling a minion for 10 Crit VIII, selling gear for 20 Crit VIII. And then what do you think bots will do? Farm Crit VIII as their new currency.
If you check the gw2exchange subreddit, people already started using mystic coins as commodity to bypass the gold limit.
what if we could eat the bots

The main reason why the Party Finder is not working for the harder content and so many groups disband after few wipes is caused by the players who ignore the comments.
Getting to the phase XYZ once does not mean you are ready to join parties to do XYZ.
Parties should spend most of the time doing the phase that is written in the comment not trying to get there.
It would likely just be a short matter of time before the bots crack whatever mechanism is being used in an attempt to prove they're an actual player.
Some MMOs have tried to use captchas to lock down bots if a repetitive pattern of actions/movement was detected, but the botters eventually just figured out they could easily write a script that datamines and instantly inputs the correct captcha to remove the action lock. It ended up hindering actual players more then the bots in the end.
There's no substitute for just having a competent enforcement team.
