    The next caster

    I've been thinking about this for awhile but I wanted to do a forum post and just share it. What would be the next caster?

    Its kind of hard trying to pinpoint a job from the other games because some are just too gimmicky and would not work in a MMO. Usually in Final Fantasy the main casters are Black Mage Summoner Red Mage and Blue Mage and they're all in the game and Blue Mage being a limited job.

    There are some jobs people mention but I don't think it could work out. Geomancer is already in the game just not playable and its pretty much the Othard verison of Conjurer and Time Mage is kind of already mixed in with Astrologian. There are some jobs that appeared in one or two games like Necromancer but I don't think that would fit in 14.

    The only job I think could work at this point is Mystic Knight/Spell Fencer/Rune fencer the whole applying magic to your blade class. Usually I would think it wouldn't work just because Red Mage kind of has some melee already and casters are ranged classes but I don't think it does enough with it and after awhile I just thought "Why not just make Spell blades a Magical Melee class? we do have three physical and three magical DPS already and only four melee DPS so it wouldn't be that odd to get another melee to even out the numbers and it probably leave Spell Blades to be one of the more interesting jobs in the game"

    I'm not sure how they would do it but I think they could and at this point its either that or make a brand new Final Fantasy job. What's your take on this?

    Just because the Geomancers we have been exposed to are healers that share focal points with Astrologians, does not mean we can't meet Geomancers from the new world or elsewhere where they have a different form of geomancy. It's the same thing with Dancer, the Dancer you unlock isn't the same as the ones that are dancing in Uldah the art that we use in the job is from thavinair.

    I hope they add Magician or a class like Ace from FF Type 0. Most of the other casters outside of rune fencer( would be too close to redmage) are either more tanky or they fall under more of a healer aspect.

    I wonder if the next dps job will be a caster, melee or ranged physical.

    Probably Berserker, dual wield hand axes.

    As for caster, the only ones I can see, are Geomancer (the more likely class to be introduced as it has been referenced and if images I've seen in the past are real, would wield hammers) or Elementalist (probably too close to RDM/BLM).

    For ideas on classes we can look to other Final Fantasy games (because SE is much more likely to make a new class out existing FF lore than create something unprecidented/new).

    The Final Fantasy Tactics series (FFT, FFTA, FFTA2, FFTAS) has tons more classes not in FFXIV.

    I'd be pumped to see a DPS Berserker, but I doubt we ever will because WAR exists.

    For an idea I've being tossing around of a mage bruiser (physical / not purely ranged / not the standard sophisticated gentle robe nature) that perhaps the base concept was Geo(mancer) Knight a mid to close range area control battle mage. With visual inspiration from Golbez and Ex-Death, both are mages in heavy armor. With weighty/meaty attack animations like a fist to the ground being connected with giant pillars of stone and meteor piling into the target. Besides their own heavy AF armor if they're DD they could share dragoon's armor group which tends to have bruiser vibes (also noting that new Nov for the whole Eden chain).



    Thought twin pylons that are infused with elements of your choice through combat (like huge Titan stone pillars for punching/shields, or firestorm shards) would help work in the area control and placement concept geomancer can inspire. Though you could also have like a two handed mace or even both a huge mace and elemental pylons, with a big mace you'd get a very Sauron vibe from Lord of the Rings. . Which would be cool lol. A mechanic might include you striking your own pylons with your mace for a bell like interaction (basically striking a very large magical bell/chime).



    I've seen a fun Thor-like concept float about too though, thunder and heavy charged attacks.


    I personally have faith SE can come with loads of new job concepts, just that each new job makes the balance juggle harder to do without making them a bit similar at least. So on the idea of new visual theme concepts I'm not too worried, it's making the gimmick new and feel different without messing with the balance that'll be the hard part lol.

    They should just rework BLU as the new caster imo.

    But if they really dont want to do that a full on support caster time mage could be a lot of fun, keeping up haste buffs on yourself and the party for very rapid casting.

    Mainly gonna say this:

    Just because AST has a few Time Mage esque elements remaining like Gravity (Time Dilation and Arrow "Haste" being removed) and parts of the Lore of Sharlayan Astrology indicating time-related elements, does NOT mean that Time Mage is not an option anymore.

    For all we know they might rip out Gravity and replace it with another name + animation (Art of War after removal of Miasma II says hello) just to give it to another job (like blood bath going from WAR to melees).

    TL;DR - Time Mage is still possible, stop saying "AST is basically Time Mage"
