Opions on garish, over the top houses?

I’m at the point in the game where I’ll be able to afford my own home, but I’m still a little torn on decorating.

I really like Chocobos, like really REALLY like Chocobos, as silly and childish as it sounds, if Chocobos weren't a thing I likely wouldn’t have gotten into FF and thusly FF14, so I like to wear the Chocobo mask every day with matching Chocobo themed glams to go with it. But why is this relevant to housing? See, if I do end up getting a house, I plan to make it Chocobo themed. Chocobo walls and sultanas breath flooring make a good combo, with Chocobo chairs, tables, and yellow dyed furniture scattered throughout, but I also thought about having the outside walls as the Chocobo walls, but I feel that may be too much due to how much space houses take up compared to something like a players glamour. Glamours can be forgotten, your neighbor though? Hard to forget because they’re your neighbor!

Not everyone enjoys Chocobos as much as I do and I’m not sure if they would enjoy seeing a giant Choco-house beside or in front of them, so I’m thinking I might just make it another type of wall as to not be too inconsiderate to my neighbors. When I make the walls Chocobo walls, it won’t be nearly as bad as the walls because it would mesh well with the environment, it would be completely optional because you wouldn’t have to go in my home, but get me or someone else as a neighbor who potentially has a ridiculous looking house that ruins that whole side of the ward? Too bad for you!

So I’d like to ask you guys, what do you think of garish, over the top housing? Do you prefer normal looking houses? Do you not care what your neighbors home looks like?

Personally, the only novelty house I really like is the Odder Otter house—simply because it looks fairly normal. The Moogle, Chocobo, Paissa, and Carbuncle houses are a bit much for me. I much prefer the more “normal” houses—or the Merchant Walls.

My personal house faces a pond of water. I specifically like it that way so I don’t have to look at over-the-top houses and/or lawns.

If you like the chocobo wall then use the chocobo wall. Maybe snag a few other cheap exteriors to trade out and see what all you like the best.

I may not like some of the housing skins but it doesn't bother me when my neighbors use them. Different people have different tastes. None of us has the right to make decorating choices for other players' houses.

Go ahead and decorate your house to be what you want it to be.

Getting a house is hard enough as it is. If you have a house, do with it as you see fit. I doubt your neighbours would care about what YOU want to see when they do up their own.

I personally hate the chocobo, piassa and what-not walls. And am irritated as it gets cause the guy who lives between me and the waterfront in Mist used a giant carbuncle walls, completely blocking my view. These kawia monstrosities are one of the main reasons I want instanced housing. Most of them are just awful unless you are really into the kawai, and saying I am not is an understatement.

Paissa are by far the worst tho, ppl admittedly use them to troll their neighbors.

My yard basically overlooks 4 other plots(a few more are barely visible or visible if i stand in just the right spot) - 2 at weird angles and 2 straight on. When im at my house(and outside) im either looking at something in my yard, or im facing one of those two neighbors directly across from me. The people out the front gate(ive seen both lots change hands several times - mostly to people transfering out and new neighbors buying in) have never put up anything noteworthy. For 3 months the guy across the road out my side yard had a chocobo house. Those walls are uglier then sin, and SO hard to ignore. One night the first week they put them up i went around asking all my friends/LS people if anyone knew the owner(they werent online, so i couldnt just talk to them). I wasnt going to complain(their house, their business), but my question was basically "If someone handed you a set of moogle walls(or some other non-ugly one) would you see it as an upgrade, or do you have chocobo because you like it?" And i would likely have made/bought them any set that wasnt paissa just to make my view pretty again. But no one knew the people, so i just joked about hiring an arsonist and tried to ignore it. Few months later they found another plot they liked and transfered out, and its been nice looking houses since then.

So OP, yes some people do dislike them. But the only opinion that matters is yours. If you wanna put up paissa walls(faaaaaaaaaaaar worse then chocobo) and fill your yard with namazu effigies and moai statues wearing afros you do you.

Its your house - decorate it as you wish. I just switched from chocobo to paissa and moved everything around in the yard. Chocobo and Paissa are cheap right now. If someone wants to give me otter walls I'll put them up
