1) Support DOES NOT make synths easier, if he is doing a dated recipe that "requires" it, then yes, he needs it, if not, then support does absolutely nothing. It does not make synths easier, it does not raise your virtual level. it does NOTHING. this has been confirmed time and time again by the developers. In the future, they plan to change how it works so that it is useful again, but for now, its pretty useless.
2) common sense, be amazed how many people will spam careful instead for the exp and complain about fails now
3) people still havent learned how much more important this is since they changed how stats work, even i have had to use wait to avoid nasty fails and be careful when crafting 51+ gear
