2P Skin Color

Um... Has nobody considered that it might just be a case of letting photoshop adjust levels to normalise the render against the rest of the site? Or perhaps the original render came out too washed out on top of the blurry background so it needed to have its contrast turned up.

In all other promotional material, going as far back as the fanfest teaser, the screenshots, patch artwork, even the actual gameplay trailer, her skin texture is what it is. Exactly what "change" is the singular outlier evidence of? That would be a very strange change to make after months of development, testing and recording the trailer.

I'm 99% convinced it's just the special site render and it looks this way for technical reasons.

It's funny bc its not only the skin color that changed. Her hair is greyer in Soul Caliber not black. But people wanna make this a race issue by focusing on the skin. It maybe something that Yoko Taro himself wanted to tweak. Who knows! What I do know is that there is a bunch of brown people working on this in Japan. So why her promotional art is lighter skinned and darker haired may never be answered.

Uh... what happened? I could have sworn she was a pretty brown shade in all media prior to now.

They probably took the photo with some bright lights.

She looks normal in the in-game footage from the trailer.

I did not say she didn't have dark hair nor dark skin. I am saying compared to the image op posted 2P's hair is DARKER than what 2P has in Soul Caliber. Look at the images posted on here or on google and you will see that 2P has dark grey hair versus the jet black hair that op posted. What I am saying is people are fixating on one aspect of the promotional image and disregarding that they changed more than just her skin color. What I am saying is ppl are stuck on skin color and that is dumb and they are only looking to pick a fight. Op and others could have taken a step back and realized their were multiple tweaks to 2P in that photo but they focused on one thing.

Also in the trailer her colors are much more faithful. But hey skin color and this x year culture.

This 2P? Not at all - the story we will see in the raid, involving these characters, is specific to the universe of FFXIV and canon to the universe of FFXIV. We will certainly see plenty of elements inspired by Nier Automata and its story, but they almost certainly won't be connected in a narrative or canon sense (like 99.9% certain...I won't say 100% because who knows with Yoko Taro, lol).

Our version will basically be "What if Nier Automata type stuff happened in the XIV universe, what would that involve?" rather than a spin-off adventure involving any of the characters from the actual Nier Automata.

Considering the implications and possibilities from the [E]nding of Automata, this is very likely to be at least tied to it. They've promised the story itself does not require knowledge of Automata prior, but that by no means implies it won't be tied into the canon of the Drakenier universe. Considering who it looked like 2P was fighting at the end of the trailer... well.

Yoko Taro tends to tie stuff together even if it otherwise shouldn't or couldn't be (coughs at multiple endings in Drakengard 3). This will be no different, and I look forward to how it will tie off from Automata's [E]nd.

Whether she's 'brown skinned' or not in the first place is also debatable. Androids lack an ethnicity in the first place and both her facial features and her tan look 'Caucasian' to me.

I love seeing the excuses for potentially whitewashing a character. "She's an android", "it's arbitrary", "she looks Caucasian to me"... If a character's skin was made darker than the source material, I wonder if it would still be no big deal.
