No, it only makes anyone trying to argue it's "whitewashing" look stupid. Both circumstances, when applied to a character design/aesthetic, will result in one that appears as a shade of brown. Hence why you get the contrast between 2B and 2P as linked above. Trying to split hairs by going 'she's not brown, she's tan' just makes you lot arguing the case look stupid.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Today I learned that people really think being brown and being tanned (i.e., your skin was made temporarily darker by exposure to sunlight) are the same thing, and that someone who's a light shade of brown isn't a different race from 'white'. There are people out there (I know, hard to believe) that are Not White but whose skin is still quite light and can even be considered 'white-passing'. That doesn't make them white though.
My point is, a character having darker than White skin isn't just 'tanned'. Why are you so afraid of a character existing that isn't white. You say you don't care but you're all so insistent on saying she's white or very fair-skinned. If you didn't care, why are you here?
You know, you people sicken me, not one of you have said anything about Subway's new brisket sandwich, that sandwich on Italian erbs and cheese bread with only brisket and shredded cheddar cheese is amazing yet no one cares, F you guys, F every one of u heartless bastards, subway brisket sandwich rules, limited time only do get it now.
...because you erroneously thought that the topic (or even the points I raised) was a race issue and not simply a question about a change in character aesthetic. Yes, I know.
Your whole all-white football team picture and dictionary screencap was obviously you thinking I viewed 'tanned' and 'brown' people as one and the same racially and wanting to 'dispute' it... when I was referring to the 2P aesthetic because either way, you're getting a brown-toned character.
That's the point you missed. Now I'm done with you.
To my knowledge no rational person is actually claiming it's whitewashing. Even when I mentioned it I was being facetious. Meanwhile, it's obvious the 'tanned not brown' argument was in retaliation to the 'brown skin' in the thread title since, typically, when it comes to these things people generally just read the title jump to conclusions and then start projecting and blowing things up.No, it only makes anyone trying to argue it's "whitewashing" look stupid.
No that is not what the tan people are arguing. They're saying that just because she is slightly darker than pasty white does not mean she can't be white. Have you ever seen a Greek man? It's why I linked the photo of Swedes who tanned. Because it's very easy to project your ideas of race, it does not, however, make you correct nor does it mean suddenly that 2P is poc. There is nothing wrong with projecting what you want to see, what is wrong is projecting your ideas of race onto a foreign company that has its own set of values. That is what tan people are saying. What we care about is the demonization of a company because they offended some western players.T

Ma'am the person who was posting at the time was making it a race issue. And I posted that pic as to show how arbitrary it was to claim that 2P being slightly brown equaled her being poc and making this a whitewashing issue. You erroneously misjudged what I said. And it most certainly wasn't facetious. I know the posts were removed, but I was attacked for not being 'poc' and called all sorts of things. Fine, I honestly don't care if you don't reply. My point simply is that 2P is not all that dark and white people can tan and look brown. That is all.

This thread stole my lunch break wish I had Subway instead for their new brisket sandwich, y'all need to go outside and get tan and enjoy some outdoor air to fan the flames of forum rage.
I just thought it was an alt color in a fighting game. I didn't think it was this important by any means. D: To be honest I didn't even know it was a real character.
Awful my dear, yes we can, make lunch time great again, ask not what McDonald's can sell to you, but ask instead what u can but from subway.
It was, until FFXIV.
It's not, but things don't have to be important for people to have varied and passionate opinions about and argue those opinions in an online forum.I didn't think it was this important by any means. D:
It wasn't (see the image posted by FeliAiko showing two 2Bs, no 2P), until FFXIV.To be honest I didn't even know it was a real character.
