It had nothing to do with subscription length, that was the legacy campaign. The legacy mark is not part of the campaign.
You had to make it to the point in the story to get the mark. Uniting the GC's to stop Nael.

Fairly sure I didn't do that and I have the mark. I think you had to get to a certain point in the story to get a different opening in ARR for your character, maybe you're thinking of that. I think that was just a brief clip of your character teleporting into existence.
I dont think I did the Nael thing. /dunno could a 20 do that?

Well that's not how it ended up.
Characters that were caught up to the proper point in the GC story (it wasn't the MSQ technically) were given legacy marks. Be it they got the campaign or not.

No, any character created in 1.0 had the mark. You had to complete the GC story to get the special story scenes in 2.0.
I payed nothing for 1.0 and got the mark on my character. My friend gave me his buddy pass and I played 1.0 for like 2 weeks, and quit. Only came back to play one day for the first Moonfire Faire. Then never touched it again until 2.0. I only got to physical level 20 according to my Sixth Astral Era page, so I don't think there was even an MSQ requirement for it. Pretty sure the only requirement was the character had to be made during 1.0.

There's so much misinformation in this thread.
The Legacy Mark (the tattoo) and a Legacy account (cheaper subscription) are completely separate. It's just confusing because they both have legacy in their names.
Legacy Mark = ANY 1.0 character. It didn't matter what level you were or how far you had got in the story, any 1.0 character got the legacy tattoo. If you created a character before 2.0 it has the mark. If it was created from the 2.0 beta onwards, it doesn't have the mark.
Legacy account/campaign = If you subscribed for a certain amount of time during a certain period of time then your entire account is flagged as legacy and you're eligible for a cheaper subscription and you have the legacy chocobo mount.
Many people have the legacy tattoo on specific characters that came from 1.0 without having a legacy account.
Likewise it's possible to have a legacy account without having a legacy character if the character was deleted at some point.

It is not account bound. Just 1.0 character as others have said. Not sure though if fantasia effects it. I have never fantasiad 1.0 character.
