That means absolutely nothing, when 5.0 came out my skills was grey as well, skills like Steady Hand II, Byregot's Blessing and more, the same skills at picture.

A lot of skills could be consolidated and upgraded through traits. Some skills are only on my hotbar because of the game putting them there automatically through leveling and some skills aren't there at all at this point. 5.05 macros have, what, 12-15 unique skills and every thing lower than that can be crafted/hq'd with a variation of those.
From Miuna's live translation on discord Reddit FFXIV at the moment of that image:
"A lot of greyed out skills..."
"there were too many skills with similar effects, we merged a lot or remade them"
"Byregot's Blessing successrate got bumped to 100% for example"
"We believe there are a lot of players that have leveld and geared their crafters/gatherers, but have no idea on what they are doing "Someone please give me a macro" and that is okay of course, but we simplified it so more people might be able to enjoy and understand crafting/gathering better"
"5.1 will have the first adjustments, there will be more in 5.2"
"We are working on high difficulty crafting recipes as well"

I made macros at lower levels, but I soon came to realize that they failed far too frequently. For one, they completely fail whenever a latency spike hits. Also, once I hit level 30 or so, there was no all-purpose macro that was going to optimally craft everything for me. Maybe I just need to expand my macro-ing skills, but crafting went from being one straight-forward sequence of optimal events to an optimal flow-chart instead. Crafting is one of my favorite parts of this game, even though the rewards are lackluster so far. I'm looking forward to finding out how relevant it is in the end-game, and I'm curious to see what the next patch does to it. I'm really taking my time leveling because now that I have two classes at 50+, I'm trying to raise everything else (including crafting) before moving on."We believe there are a lot of players that have leveld and geared their crafters/gatherers, but have no idea on what they are doing "Someone please give me a macro" and that is okay of course, but we simplified it so more people might be able to enjoy and understand crafting/gathering better"
Man YoshiP why you gotta call me out on that."We believe there are a lot of players that have leveld and geared their crafters/gatherers, but have no idea on what they are doing "Someone please give me a macro" and that is okay of course, but we simplified it so more people might be able to enjoy and understand crafting/gathering better"
But in all seriousness, I'm glad they're doing this.

from the way they explained it in the LL it does seem like the progress steps will need a pretty high number of people participating ("think of fates for crafters that last x hours were some 300 people can contribute", and failing would mean that "there weren't enough"), especially if there is something like a limit of how many turn-ins a single person can contribute. So it defenitely makes sense for them to streamline crafting in hopes of making it more appealing.
hah, same here. I only really levelled up my crafters & gatherers as a means to save gil on things like glamour gear or housing furniture which just have to be NQ "brute forced". Besides that and the easy weekly custom deliveries I have absolutely no idea how to use about 2/3 of crafting skills.

Like all of those greyed out ones are cross class abilities, and cross class is getting the axe.
Go figure.

The reddit translation explained they felt crafting had far too many buttons that no longer served a purpose. So they're merging or removing them.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."

The fact these adjustments are happening at the same time Ishgard Restoration is pretty much them trying to make it easy as possible for people to contribute.

I wonder what going to happen to bacon's broth or tinkering calm
