Does anyone play this game on dial up Internet?

I dunno about FFXIV, but I played FFXI on dial up for 2 years just fine... Mind you it took a while to load zones, but it was SUPER stable and I never got d/c'd once for internet related reasons. I downloaded patches after 10pm and on weekdays when everyone was at work or school, which was also when family were far less likely to call. Granted FFXI has much smaller patch sizes (and I kept backups of them for emergencies).

In FFXIV, your party would hate waiting for you to load into EVERY dungeon...
I would suggest getting a rural internet option such as Satellite internet before using it to play FFXIV (which is what my parents did back then so we could have better net for schoolwork and have more than one computer). Satellite may not be the most stable option for internet but its far better than Dial-Up anyday. If he can afford the setup costs (dish and installation fees) its well worth the better speeds.

They can copy all the game data files from one computer to another after they install the DVD.

Yup, that's what my family does since our Internet is slow, and we live rurally. 450kb/s is pretty slow, but it beats the dial-up we used to have here. Our Internet would drop whenever a phonecall came through too, back in the day.

Kek. Why not take it a step further, play the game via carrier pigeon. Just draw what ability you want to use, mail it to SE via pigeon, then wait for them to mail you back what happened.

And talk of floppy disks and carrier pigeons. A second hand store I used to work at has the philosophy of "if it ain't broke don't fix it", all their computer systems ran off of MSDOS and their idea of networking was to write all of the sales data to a floppy disk at the front of the store and walk it over to the accounting PC to transfer it.

Though I cannot really talk these days, one half of my job requires me to code in PICK, which is even older and is designed to use tape decks, luckily we run it through an emulated system and don't use anything as near archaic, we even have fancy Web integration and everything.

Though, has the OP considered tape decks instead of the ol' floppies? Your ol papa might find the whole concept of a floppy disk to be way too lewd and he's a man of a different time and cannot be subjected to such indignities. And you can write over that old Cliff Richard cassette tape you bought when you were feeling young and stupid.

I'm currently running my entire internet connection by running on a treadmill for power generation.

It's really tough when I do MSQ rou since I'm ready to fall asleep during it but then I remember I sleep walk.
