Does anyone play this game on dial up Internet?

How well does the game run for you?

Dial-up? Is that even possible? I was under the impression that the game's server bandwith is just too high for a dial-up connection (unlike FFXI which plays perfectly fine on dial-up). SE themselves officially state a broadband connection as the minimum requirement for FFXIV ARR.

I do know mobile (3G/4G) internet does work though, as I briefly used it last year to connect to the game while I was waiting for my new broadband internet connection to be set up. But dial-up I'm pretty sure is simply not suitable for this game.

Well I was gonna recommend this game to my pappy who still lives out on the farm in Kansas, he is too far out for all this new dangled high speed Internet us city folk have. It would just be nice if he could play this after milking the cows you know?

Considering dial up is 56k, it would take him about... 2 years to download the game?

Oh don’t you worry about that! We sent pappy one of those DVD drives last year, we just upgraded from a CD drive!

They can copy all the game data files from one computer to another after they install the DVD.

I remember how Halo 1 for PC (which I played a lot of back in the day) had multiple bandwidth presets for the online multiplayer. Basically, the setting you chose placed a cap on how many people could join your hosted sessions, with a maximum of 16 people if you chose the T1/LAN option. The dial-up (56k) option allowed for a maximum of just 2 people.

If an 18 year old game can't perform optimally online on dial-up, then no way in the seven hells is an MMO going to perform well.

No worries there! While we don’t have one of those expensive DVD writers, we have lots of floppy disks!
