One thing I do miss about Balmung being locked is that it starved out all the gil spammers and made tells like that legitimately rare... :<
Someone on another thread mentioned that a lot of gil spammers are likely bots programmed to auto delete themselves once they've spammed enough, perhaps putting a restriction on making new characters after character deletion would help? Like a day or two or waiting before they can fill the now empty slot again? It's not like it would affect most of the player base given how most of us don't even have alts let alone any intention to delete our main.
Buying gil from an RMT seller should be an instant permanent ban, regardless of first offence or not, no second chances. Enix should also post notifications stating this, so new players don't feel tempted to try because they don't realize the consequences. With a clear warning, there would be no excuses.
There is no reason to be lenient with players who fuel this.
Right after they added the 'Report RMT Activity' option to the chatlog, gil spammers retaliated with scripts that would send out party invites instead. Which was really annoying if you were trying to trade or teleport or pretty much interact with anything.
Personally I'd rather have the chat spam because at least I can switch that to a tab. Random party invites can't be avoided unless Busy status lets you ignore them, and I think that just keeps you from sending Tells.
afaik, it shouldn't be fake, the discord pm PF's for clears while maybe not all some are real money but that's all hearsay.
i will say OR at least it's claimed and people do fight against it because of said reasons.
(i also just want to say i have no proof on anything that's true only what i read in game from other players or here on the forums)
They can take away the right to use special characters in chat for one. The bots have been using them for YEARS to get their messages across. Stop new characters from using ascii. Or take away the ability for everyone. Either works for me.
Well it is part of the playerbases fault in why gilbots are rampant. If people stopped buying gil, we wouldn't have this issue, but people are dumb and/or lazy and they think it's perfectly ok they bought gil. I've actually seen someone act like this in an old discord group I was in back before I jumped datacenters, including a few group calls he was in and gloated about how he bought gil because he 'had some extra money lying around and got what he wanted'. It's sad you can't report people that openly admit it outside the game.

If they cracked down harder on gil trafficking by banning both the sellers and the buyers it would actually deter people.
It would also axe those players who sell gil to the RMT companies at a markdown, too. I really think that's a more common practice then one might think judging from the sheer scale of some of the bot farming operations going on.
Unpopular opinion but I don't mind the Gil sellers because it reminds me there are still lots of people playing. In XI when the Gil sellers started disappearing it was because the population was thinning.
One way might be to block a portion of the text in posts that have been reported, say 100 times. Ideally, with the aid of a human who can identify and set the system to simply disappear any text that contains the seller's URL for example, forcing them to disguise it, or even change their site's name. Eventually, with so many gill seller's key phrases blocked, they'd find it nearly impossible to get their message across.
