    7th Calamity aether connection?

So if each Calamity had a certain aether aspect to it -- water, fire, air, etc -- what was the most recent one?

Saw one video that claimed it was "astral" but another credited a 2.0 teaser trailer as saying it was "dark" but I couldn't find the mentioned source for either. :\

I think the lore book(s) have mention of which calamity was which element, including the seventh. As for which element that was...

    Shadowbringers spoilers:
The 7th calamity was all elements tilted towards Astral, and as we find out in Shadowbringers, Astral is Darkness. So both videos are correct. Astral/Darkness being the 'aspect' of growth/activity/chaos is why things went funky with the orange over-aspected crystals and such.

    Calamities in order.

    First: Wind - Fifth Shard

    Second: Lightning - Twelfth Shard

    Third: Fire - Second Shard

    Fourth: Earth - Third Shard

    Fifth: Ice - Sixth Shard

    Sixth:Water - Tenth Shard

Seventh: All elements, No element in particular.* Seems important that it happened on the Source and not on a reflection, wouldn't you say?

Eighth: Light - First Shard in the future

Ninth: Darkness - Unknown Shard in the far future. Attempted with the Thirteenth, but failed.

Thats a good question and funnily enough the lore answers it some what. Basicly thats what it was thought in game as well a calamity needs to have an element so now that we run out of element we re safe. And then the 7th happened that proved them wrong. And to go into a bit more detail even this calamity that we supposedely averted wasnt actually Light aspected because strictly speaking the real umbral calamity was in the future were we died and the whole world Devolved into warmongering that happened in the future in the source. So this world we saved was a calamity it was linked to the 8th umbral calamity but it wasnt the 8th umbral calamity.

Yes im a lore nerd fight me

For some reason i cant do corrections by Phone. Just in case but we can still call it the Light umbral calamity since the world that was going to be rejoined was drowned by Light. Just the way the calamities are named and the fact that not every one knows about the ascians and the rejoi ning thus naming it from what happen to the source catagorises it as unaspected

Basically this, but to be more specific
the Astral charge is the effect the power of Darkness has on aether, while the Umbral Charge is the effect the power of Light has on aether, with Light and Dark still being forms of power distinct from the elements.

so if I'm understanding correctly, Light on the First is causing aether to be dulled or stalled. Would that mean that Dark on the shard that died (the 5th iirc) that would've been overactive aether, overcharged?

WHOO this calamity stuff makes my head hurt

It was the 13th Shard that fell to the Flood of Darkness and became the Void/World of Darkness, not the 5th (if I remember rightly the 5th was instead one of the Shards that ended up being successfully Rejoined to the Source).

I just double checked it was the 7th shard that caused the most recent calamity. If it was the Light that was causing issues on the First (something we on the Source would attribute as Umbral, which is aether becoming stagnant and dulled), it makes me believe that the 7th shard falling to Astral energy would be Dark and thus opposite, overcharged and such.

I think the 7th shard is the successful version of whatever they were trying to do to the 13th shard which just completely went bust and became the Void.

The Exarch's diorama represents the 7th Calamity with the Seventh turning this weird "evil dragonfruit" color that we sometimes see when Darkness is involved (more commonly we see that evil grape color mixed with black, but we see the evil dragonfruit color, too).

The lore book told us already that the 7th Umbral Calamity caused by Bahamut just before ARR was "all elements charged astrally". If you take this in conjunction with Urianger's revelations (that the presence of Darkness will give elemental energies an astaral charge, and vice versa, and that Eorzea has incorrectly assumed the opposite for millennia), it all fits, and thus reveals that the 8th Umbral Calamity would have been all elements charged umbrally by the rapid increase in Light on the First (which was already Light-heavy but in delicate homeostasis).

The big takeaway here is that, yes, it's convoluted, but lore integrity counts for a lot and there weren't a lot of ways to keep it all consistent.

Especially since Calamities are elemental ... astral and umbral are elemental polarities ... and Light and Darkness are not even on the elemental energy spectrum.
