The game does feel lonely if you're playing alone. Perhaps you could try to bring some friends on the game ?

That being said, you could also try to join a Free Company. If you want people writing in the normal chat, you could hang around Limsa Lominsa, if I recall right, people usually gather there and talk to each other, but I can't say if it's the same on every server.

There are many ways to make the game feel less lonely, free companies are just the start. If you raid, statics are a good way to make close friends, social linkshells act very much like FC chat, and if you want to go outside of the game, discord servers open you up to thousands of players with similar interests.

We are also getting fellowships in 5.1, which will be another avenue to socialise with other players.

i was hoping it would be different from other mmos ive played, but its also very quiet ..nobody talks in the "map chat". i been playing a few months never been in an fc..
met sooo many cancer mentors...
just havent had good luck with the community really..

That's because there is no real need to talk to, be friends with or in any way/shape/form participate with other people, which is kindda ridiculous for an mmo, but its how things are in ffxiv. You can sit in your house and venture out just for the occasional hunt or something, you don't have to make friends to do dungeons or extremes, you can just queue up and go.

You can put forth the effort to try to find people to be friendly with, but this game has a community that seems scared of interaction outside of hi/bye. It is one of the more friendly ones, that is true, but I think that is because you don't really have to rely on anyone for anything. And since you can play however poorly you want and no one can say anything to you without chancing a ban, it brought in a whole other kind of crowd, which exasperated the problem.

If you think about it more as a coop game than an mmo its not too bad.

But SE isn't helping things either giving us stuff like trusts.

I am truly sorry you feel that way and have come across players who made your gaming experience less than ideal.

I have personally had a completely different experience. I believe the FF14 community is one of the nicest I have ever come across in any game and I've been heavily gaming (esp mmos) since the early 90's. Sure you get an occasional idiot or elitist jerk but overall it's quite good. It varies from server to server though. Siren is definitely one of the good ones.

I am always looking for more friends or people to talk to, so feel free to find me in game, come past my FC house (you can look me up on the Lodestone under "Internet Dad") or even hit me up in Discord at ANT3RA#0001.

I'm part of a fantastic community in my FC which to me is irreplaceable, and am always one to start conversations in /sh chat just to be that guy. I'm not going to advertise my FC here, but if you are interested drop me a line.
