Best way to enjoy housing without... a house?

Ok I know this question is kinda dumb, but I currently have 2 houses. One is my FC house with some RL friends that quit, and the other my personal house. But the problem is I am just dead sick of being constantly subbed to this game. Even 1 1/2 month is not long enough of a break I want.

But when I do play, I love housing. It's by far my favorite part of the game. And I know if I took the break I want, I'd get back and wouldn't be able to enjoy housing cause my house would be demo'd.

So what would be the best option? I already have an apartment, but they are so small that it's so annoying to do anything in them. Is it allowed to have 8 apartments on 1 world and put them all together, so you can just click the door and travel to the next apartment? I heard about this somewhere else but I don't recall where so I can't find the page anymore. I don't want to level all those alts just to find out it is limited like houses... I also don't know if apartments are truly unlimited? I thought there was a limited amount of rooms sort of like free companies?

Has anyone even done this, and can you share if you find it too bothersome to be worth it?

I also considered joining a larger free company with my alts, and getting private rooms for them all, but I worry about being kicked or the FC dissolving...

There are up to 90 apartments per building at the moment. If it fills up then you have to find another building. The apartments are a good choice for those taking breaks as they do not have a timer looming over them and unlike private rooms, they do not have a 3rd party in control of you losing them. As big FCs tend to churn through members, taking a long break would likely make you a target for dismissal at which point you'll have a limited time to collect your things from the Resident Caretaker npc before the server eats them. Apartments will of course be limited in that they each belong to the character and not your account so visiting your alts apartments will treat you as a guest.

If you have a friend who has a personal house, see about being given shared estate privileges.

Every character can have their own apartment (though still just one per character). You can't direct link the apartments to each other but you can buy them all in the same apartment building so you can use the apartment menu to go from apartment to apartment (my main and one of my alts have their apartments in the same building). On a higher pop world, you'd probably need to look through the subdivisions to find an apartment building with enough room for multiple characters right now though it will be easy to do for at least a few months once the new wards open.

Apartments cannot have tenants, though, so one character can't use the interactives in another character's apartment or get housing items out of another's storage. Your characters would need to be tenants of the same house if you wanted to transfer housing items between them (something else I have done using a friend's house). FC chests can also be used to store and trade housing items that are marked Binding as long as they aren't also marked Unique or Untradeable though you'd risk someone else in the FC taking the items depending on access rules.

As Dustytome said, joining a FC to get private rooms would leave you at risk of getting kicked during an absence unless the FC was run by a friend you know won't be taking their own breaks from the game.

With the FC option, I'd probably also check what their policy is for booting people.

In the FC I run, if somebody let's us know theyre on hiatus or we have reason to believe they will be coming back after a little while for whatever reason (like we know of a situation that's taking their attention) then we don't boot them. Though in our particular case, we expect people to be active members when they are here, so we try to avoid having people just park. But every FC is different, so if you were to do this instead of apartments, always worth checking in how they approach this.

Hmm yeah you are all right about the FC thing, I think I wont do that option. I don't mind having to log in to the alt to design the apartment, I just like to walk around in them a lot. So I think I really should look into getting a series of apartments! Thank you Also if I create all the alts right now, I could easily get them into my FC through my signpost right now, then demolish my house and use the free company chest to send items from my main to my alts for decoration.
