Is there a setting to permanently make a chat network the default?

Hello. Currently the Novice Network is the default chat (not sure why). I would like to make a Linkshell or even the FC my default automatically when I log in.

Also, I created a custom chat window... it would be nice if I could permanently set this to chat network of my choosing. Unfortunately there's no setting for this. If I change the chat network on the custom chat window, it globally switches it for the General chat as well.

Typing a chat command without a message will change your default input to that channel. This setting persistents across logins. Caveat: if you are a novice or returner enrolled in the NN, it forces itself into default every time you login. If you want a different default channel on login, you have to leave NN or become a mentor.

Windows all share the same input channel.

Ah, ok. I've been asking this question on the Novice Network and people have been telling me how to change it. When I tell them it doesn't work I'm made to feel by others that it's my fault for not following the directions right.

When I log back in it says "Changing chat channel to Novice Network". Now I understand why. Thank You!

Someone in your respective NN may have explained this already but I’ll see if I can’t explain it better.

To alter your chat logs, go to Menu -> Character Configuration -> Log Window Settings (at the very bottom) -> Log Filters (also at the very bottom.) These four logs numbered 1 through 4 are your respective chats, the first three should be, “General”, “Battle”, and “Event”, with the 4th being a optional one for anything you want.

You can edit these logs by clicking on them, and customize them to your liking with what you want to show in them, for example, you could filter out the NN from the first three but make a specific chat dedicated to the NN in the 4th slot. You can also alter the size of the log window by clicking on the top right of it and dragging your cursor.

The only issue I've had is being stuck with NN as a forced default. I'm used to the WoW chat system where the channel you are typing to is part of the field you type in. I've mistakenly typed in NN numerous times on my custom chat log thinking I'm typing only to my filtered group. I don't realize my error until I hit Enter, and by then it's too late. I know I'm not the only one because I see people having one way conversations in NN all the time. It's funny, but it's also not.

I'd prefer a setting per chat tab as well, but don't mind this game's system for characters who are not in the novice network. As Rongway mentioned, normally, for anyone other than NN sprouts, the game at least remembers what channel you'd been in last and keeps that as your default from one gaming session to the next, so if you have a usual favorite, that's where it will be.

It seems a crazy rule to keep resetting it to NN at every login if you are in that one, though. There's probably a lot of sprouts who want access to the NN occasionally, but spend more time chatting with their FC, or a linkshell, or in party chat...

I guess you could just get into the habit of changing your chat default before doing anything else each time you log in, even if you're not saying anything at the time. I regularly start every gaming session by opening the armoire, glamour chest, saddlebags, and each of my retainers, just so that item searches will work proplerly from then on if I end up doing any. If something becomes a habitual part of logging in, you're less likely to forget it the time you actually want it.
