    Noob gear questions

    Noob gear questions
So I'm relatively new to the FFXIV realm. My friends and I have noticed a few things that arent normal to other MMOs I'm used to. I've noticed alot of ways to make some money but my biggest confusion is the market board. From my understanding pink's are never tradable which just leaves blues and greens. Which I've seen being sold in market (weapons with effects ect.). Even some of the special weapons like the new Moogle event wep is being sold. Guess over all my question is how are these normally non tradable items becoming tradable? Or more accurately how are ppl getting tradable items to be sold on the market place?

Certain blue/green items can be crafted and sold, using rare materials that are often a pain to acquire. These particular items are tradeable, even though they are blue/green. If you're ever unsure, check the top of the tooltip and it'll tell you whether the item is unique, untradeable, or binding etc.

You can obtain untradeable greens from dungeons, and untradeable blues are usually from tomes or another token exchange.

Pink = aetherial. You only get those from lower level dungeon chests really. Their defence/attack stats are equal to HQ items of that same level, but some of their stats are randomized (Having base stats, then acting like you have materia on them). Can never be traded

Blue gear = Usually bought from shops with tomestones/primal fights. Older primal weapons you get from fights you can upgrade them with certain items, and if it's one you craft base upgrade, you can then trade it/sell on the marketboard.

Some crafted items are Green in name and can be sold on the marketboard, as well as a very small pool of dungeon drops that can be sold (Level 15 gear from the first few dungeons that don't say untradable, and some from Dzemael Darkhold that are used for some item achievements as well)

The blue gear on the marketboard is crafted cosmetic gear. It's not real gear. If it says "Replica", it's purely for cosmetic, or if it's a weapon that looks like one of the primal weapons with glowing effects, it's cosmetic.

You can usually spot the cosmetic pieces because their item level will be quite low in comparison to the rarity, too. Item level is the important part. An HQ white piece of gear can be better than a green piece or blue.

I don't think the moogles are selling any tradeable weapons, but there are other weapons that use the same model as them. (They're not unique to the event - they're normally obtained from the stall at Revenant's Toll by trading Behemoth horns from a rare FATE in Coerthas.)

The "most important" things to get (if you care about them) are the Mameshiba Earring and the Falcon airship mount (which was previously a promotional giveaway and hasn't been available elsewhere since then), but the Behemoth items are next after that. I've only seen it happen twice in over two years, and the first time was only after I camped there for hours.

To be exact, it's "real gear" (with stats and usable to a point) versus true cosmetic gear that is Lv1 and has no stats on it, but it's never the best gear available. From memory, some are decent as a "just got to Lv50 and need gear" purchase though - but always check the item level.

The crafted replica/primal gear has never been suitable for actual use. At the time that any of them were released, they were worse than whatever previous "basic" gear set was available. The gap for the level 60 HW crafted gear is especially egregious, since the Antiquated artifact gear back then was even i200 vs. i180 replicas. The level 50 replica armor is i50 and the weapons range from i50-110, which is on par with soldiery tome gear at best and completely outdated on their release.

Regardless of what they were for a fully-equipped player at time of release, they are still - then and now - a decent ilevel range for someone who has just reached Lv50 and wants a decent weapon they can buy with gil rather than tomes.

Most Lv50 primal weapons are i95; Ramuh's are i110 and close to the best thing available on the marketboard at that level - and depending on the current market, may be quite affordable. (I bought some of them for under 10,000 gil not that long ago, gearing up an alt who had reached Lv50.) Or maybe the person plans to use them for glamour anyway, so might as well use them.

I appreciate all the responses. Thanks for clarifying, so selling gear outside of cosmetics for money is not a thing here, or even possible really as most of the desired stuff is bound or untradable.

The blue weaps, like the Mog/Ifrit/Garuda/etc weapons are more glamour weapons than actual ones. You can use them, and the stats are generally fine, but they wont be BiS (or near BiS) typically. At lvl 50, its Augmented Ironworks, 60 is Augmented Shire, and 70 is Augmented...thing - I forget what the title is. Its iLvL 130, 270, and 400 respectively. Pretty much the best gear is gonna be from Tomestones or from Raids, followed by HQ crafted Gear/Dungeon Gear.

Dont over think it though. Just pay attention to the stats and iLvL. Generally speaking, the higher the iLvL, the better it is despite colors. If they have the same iLvL, break it down by stats. For weapons, stat priorities are Weapon Damage>Primary Stat>Secondary stats. +1 damage on a weapon is a lot and should not be underestimated. Following that, primary stat values (STR, INT, DEX, Etc) are where you should try to be maximizing. Then its secondary stats like Crit, SkS, Det, etc. For armor, just figure out the iLvL and what has the best stats.
