Lets end FFXIV with Neir (Neir spoiler)

It seems this game is muddled up more and more with other games lore. If they are going to do it might as well do it right.

At the conclusion of Neir raid, delete all our character data. If anyone still want to play FFXIV then they can restart from the begining with new character or don't participate in Neir raid at all. I highly doubt they got the balls to do it though.

Muddled how exactly? ShB was probably the most coherent it's been in years with how it ties in with older plot lines in an organic fashion.

Also I can almost bet you Yoko Taro will do something like that in the raid storyline as a 'gotcha' moment but it definitely won't stick. SE isn't stupid enough to piss off that many players.

Just because you can't follow the Lore doesn't mean it's muddled. May I recommend a youtube video you can watch to follow along with the story?

I'm not talking about Shadowbringers. I'm talkingt about incoporating other game world into this game as part of the cannon lore like FF12. Rabanastre is now an actual place within this world and soon we are about to have Neir. This is not just some FF13 and FF15 promotion event.

That's a FF staple for going on decades now. It's literally part of the appeal of this series. FF12 was a love letter to Tactics and had many of the same locations for example. FF9 was basically one GIANT love letter to FF1-FF6 as well. Locations, characters, summons, and more often get reused.

I agree with the poster that this game is heavy on other game's lore. It's all new to me though as I only played 7 and some of 6 and 8. I am in favor of new characters and monsters over nostalgic nods which I think should be rarer to keep them special.

Now if they were to announce ff17 is an MMO created by this current team I'd be delighted. Imagine what these devs could do with a clean slate and no "technical limits" from having to use a previous game's code as they do now.

There really aren't that many instances where you /need/ to have played the other games lore though in order to understand what's happening. They tie most of it into the lore of FF14 pretty well and most of the nods to past games are Easter eggs at best. Like Hien for example. One of the only ways you'd know he's a nod to Cyan from FF6 is when his 'theme' starts playing during cutscenes, and even then you wouldn't actually know it is an Easter Egg until you get the Orchestrion roll and it appropriately is titled 'Cyan's Theme'. The only other nod he has to the character that inspired him is his childhood name of 'Shun', which was what Cyan's kid was called in the Japanese version of FF6.

Even the Ivalice raids, the most overt nod to another game in this entire MMO, don't require you to have knowledge of the lore of Tactics. While I can definitely understand not enjoying these little nods if you haven't played past titles, I'd say the lore team has done a pretty fantastic job making these little homages fit with the newer content.

What the? Are you quite finished OP? You can delete my character if you give me all the money i spent on the game back.

You not liking something is different than everyone should get their characters deleted cause you are unsatisfied. You do that. But i most certainly won't.

Honestly, you don't need to consider the side stories canon. I actually like that FFXIV has this flexibility and we can experience a variety of content not typically seen in fantasy mmo's.

This is probably the biggest whoosh I've seen in months.

The OP is referencing something that happens when you finish the final ending of NieR: Automata.

This game is built on references to other games, and it's not too hard to make them fit into this game's Lore, the only egregious exception being the Yo-Kai Watch event, as that game's aesthetic is completely at odds with XIV's. Complaining that this game is getting filled with references to other games is... odd, given that about an 70% of ARR was a reference to other FF games.

The CT raid was based around FF3, and was made to fit inside the XIV world very well, and Matsuno was very clear that the Ivalice storyline is meant to be a "what if" characters and events from Ivalice showed up in Hydaelin, hence the massive character and timeline differences between the Ivalice games and the Return to Ivalice raid plot.

Now, Yoko Taro is a different brand of crazy, and I did read that the Nier raid will be an actual continuation to Automata (although the man is also a huge troll, so it may be misdirection). I HAVE complained that the Factory's aesthetic doesn't seem to match the rest of the XIV world, but we've had literal dimensional travel with both FFXIII and FFXV events, and Nier itself has crossed dimensions since it was still Drakengard (anyone recall the ending where the dragon showed up in our world?).
