Disabled person looking for easiest to play class/job

    Hello everyone,

I am a new to FFXIV. I have played a wide range of games from platformers to RPGs to adventure games on PC and Game consoles. I spent 10 yrs on WOW. I do have a question about this game that is a bit unique. I would like everyones opinion on which class/job would be the easiest to play for someone who is somewhat disabled with their hands.

To keep the story short so that I don't use up too much of your time. My wife and I are both lifetime PC gamers but were in a serious car accident a few years ago. My hands are ok but get tired and cramp easily now. We used to do alot of end game raiding in world of warcraft. I used to have a very high average click rate. Now my issue is that I can't click or press button repeatedly very quickly so a spamming flay style is out. I am not planning on participating in end game content or anything like that. Mostly my wife and I plan on just enjoying the game and grinding out levels or chilling with professions like gardening.

So on to my question. Is there a class/job that has slow click rate for their rotation or has a lot of give in terms of making mistakes? Especially if there is one that has good enough output for questing with little clicking.

Thank you in advance for any help.

All classes are going to be constantly pressing buttons, though healers/tanks in general tend to have less that need to be pushed (Except for Gunbreaker, which plays more like a DPS in terms of how many inputs per minute you make).

If you want to play a DPS, you probably chose one of the better ones already as thamuaturge/black mage have comparatively less buttons to push then a lot of other DPS classes do as most of their cooldowns are on longer timers and serve to bolster their usual Fire/Blizzard spam.

For casual content, I'd lean towards White Mage, you can do reasonably well even if you under utilise your full kit and it's the least hectic of the 3 healers which is in turn the least hectic role. If you're not fancying a healer job, also consider Red Mage, it's imho the most straight forward DPS with the least busy work, whilst it's APM isn't lower, it's simplicity means you'll have an easier time arranging your hotkeys to take the load off your hands.

In fairness though, coming from WoW you'll likely find the GCD pace massively slower than what you're used to anyway. You may well be surprised.

Also as an oldie with worn out hands myself. Consider both your arm position and keyboard as well. I have a rolled up cloth infront of my keyboard's palm rest that I rest my arm on and making a conscious effort to straighten and stretch my wrists and fingers where possible really can make a difference in longer raids. I'd also recommend a mechanical keyboard with light actuation switches if you've not gone that route already. Mushy heavy membranes are bad, as is a setup that forces you to bottom out the keys with any real force.

I hope that helps. For all the salt that gets thrown around here at times, this is a really enjoyable mmo that really lends itself to relaxed play with friends and family.

Slowest classes are Thaumaturge, Gladiator, and Samurai (Level 50 start and onward) There is little oGCD when it comes to each of these classes with a time of 2 seconds per GCD on average, Paladin being the slowest at ~2.35 GCD. I haven't played archer or the other classes enough, but in my experience these three are probably for the best if your hands cramp and need to hit buttons a lot less.

Not sure if this will help, but you can also press a GCD button once and the game will 'remember' the input and do the GCD if you press it at around 0.6-0.75 seconds remaining before it goes off. Helps me a lot when it comes to not spamming keys.

The other tanks are generally fine, but other dps classes I would avoid. Most classes are heavily oGCD oriented, but the three mentioned above are less about oGCD and more about building and spending resources, even at higher level play if you decide to change your mind about doing story only.

Just never touch Astrologian/Rogue if your hands cramp.

I'd say Red mage once you get a class to 50. As for a class that might be easy on your hands till then, I'd say try out Gladiator into paladin.

Bard, its the easiest. Gives you mobility while still being able to dps. (which is the hardest part of a melee/caster is figuring out WHEN to use your skills for max dps) while as bard its a little less important because you can dodge and still dps.

Would not Advise playing bard anything past 60^ Bard requires constant attacking pressing skills, keeping up DoT's, singing your songs. It only gets faster in the higher levels. Depends on what level you plan on going to.

I think the lowest APM classes are Warrior for tank, White Mage for healer and Black Mage for DD. Black Mage is actually the only job in the game wich is generally slower than the GCD because of their long cast times and the lack of any off-GCD attacks (but there are some off-GCD buffs to press).

I do not agree with many opnions here, i would never indicate a Healer for a disabled person but if i would do that was going to be Scholar for sure.

    SCH

    - Has the best healing tools ( i do solo Healing End-Game content as SCH way easier than any Healer ).
    - best kit for Shields and Mitigation ( to reduce incoming damage ).
    - Best Insta Heals kit ( for Emergency Heals without Cast for it ).
    - Fairy can deal with Healing most of time that SCH is doing anything else, rarely SCH must heal at Low Level Dungeons ( i do clear any -50 Dungeon without heal once as SCH ).
    - More DPS Windows, you can have issues Healing and DPSing at same time with WHM and AST, so ignoring DPS and focusing only on Heal you must deal with Toxic people about why you not DPSing.

For DPS i would suggest BRD or RDM, they are easy to play and BRD has the best mobility in the game, RDM as a amazing self-sustain and a decent mobility, both are easy to play as well.

For Tanks i would never suggest a PLD, we are not in ARR/HW anymore where PLD was the easiest and straight foward Tank, all Tanks at this moment are pretty easy but PLD isn't the easiest one at all, his Skill kit is highest and there's many buffs and Party Utility skills to deal with. The most basic Tank at this moment are WAR, their skill kit are the smallest and they are by far the easiest to play, basically is a selfish job and their rotation are pretty easy.

Tank is my choice for disabled person, they has higher HP and Resistance than any job which gives advantage for mistakes surviving against mechanics that would hit kill anyone else and most of mechanics ( like 90% ) do not target you when you're Main Tank, most of time you just stand in front of boss because most of mechanics target the Party, not you.

I can't say about SCH as I didn't level him in 5.0 yet, but Bard is a bad advice. Yes, he is one of the easiest to play, but it isn't a slow job. RDM is more or less slow though its melee combo can be tricky in this term.

Tanks can be a tricky choice because sometimes you need very fast reaction for using defensive CD. Depending on how bad player's hands are, it can lead to a spasm. But outside of this they are pretty slow in their playstyle, so it's a good role to at least try to play it. Same goes to healers with being fast in emergencies. At this point DPS jobs are more safe to play, and the most slow would be probably BLM, to be honest.
