    There are several targetting problems.
First, while pressing confirm does target the closest target, the distance seems to be calculated from the screen, not from your character. I can't count how many times I pressed confirm to target something in front of me, only to target myself.

Second, and that's what ChiefCurrahee meant, cycling from left to right isn't the problem. The problem is the order it cycles through it, instead of going from closest left to closest right then jumping to the next distance, it cycles from closest to farthest, THEN goes right/left, meaning you keep jumping distances, too often ending up targeting a mob miles away instead of the one in front of your nose.

Edit: this is the thread where the issue is explained in more detail: clicky

In version 2.0, we’re creating the UI with the following conditions in mind, which means that there shouldn’t be too many situations where you would need to type out NPC and player names with macros, etc.

    Targeting Party Members

You’ll be able to decide the rules for your party member list and change the order to your liking. It will be possible to target by indicating TA1 for the tank for example.

    Targeting Enemies

We’ll be implementing a command to target the enemy closest to you
We’ll be implementing a command to target enemies that have enmity towards your character

By implementing the above, we believe it lowers the number of situations where typing names would be beneficial, but we are also planning to make it possible to target via direct name input for /invite and other commands where it is necessary.

We will be announcing specific feature details in the future.
    Awesome!
We get all the good options AND direct name input!

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
    (Marvelous economics IQ test!)

Ya but then you need like 3 macros for each to cover if the person is T or A or B then he might be 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 etc.... Your name never changes so /target John Smith be same all the time, but the T/A/B/1/2/3 be changing all time.

SE are always worrying me with their "great ideas"
SE what happens when we are faced with party alliances and mass participation battles of up to 100 players and I presume a similar number of mobs? How well will your targeting work then? Have you honestly thought about this and tested it out? Will I have to admonish you again lol?

    Something along the lines of:
"target the mob with the lowest current hp" = /tlchp
"target the mob with the lowest max hp" = /tlmhp
"target the mob with the highest max hp" = /thmhp

Maybe do this for player character hp also, to assist healing.
It may seem too easy button for some stubborn head in the sand types but you try tabbing through 100 targets and you will soon change your minds.

What if the person you're trying to target is outside the party? How would I do it then?

Yes it will be changing, but you will be able to arrange the order the names show up everytime as well, so this is a non issue.

    Here...
    • Tap Spacebar to target party members/self. Hold spacebar to lock-on after tapping.
    • Replace "Toggle Combat Mode" key with "Flee" or "Disengage" key.
    • Enemy targeting should be smart enough to know what you want to target automatically. Tab once targets enemy, tap and hold locks on, double tap disables lock-on and/or moves to second priority target.

You shouldn't need more than that.
