IMO, as I've typed this out and sorted things in my head, they should just open them up to everyone. The game exists now as is already. People can start to play now. Separating the two reminds me of DC Universe Online, where PS3 players can't play with PC players. It's a bit different here, but still separating a segment of people. I didn't think that a good idea with that game, and nor do I really here. And, if just for a limited time, then what's the point?
First off, I am not sure how long they said the servers would be blocked from transfers. At this point in time, we don't really even know if transfers at 2.0 are even going to occur. Yoshi has said in some interviews that he would like to explore the option of region based / language based / categorically based servers.

I want to play on an English CST/EST based server at 2.0. I don't want to be locked on a mixed/international server.

As far as an "advantage" goes for older players on newer servers. There are a few obstacles I see with regards to it. People with exorbitant amounts of gil will both have a massive advantage and disadvantage of transferring. They will have a big pocket book to buy things with (probably at lower prices initially), but will also have to sell their goods at VASTLY lower rates than they are accustomed to, probably leading to an overall spread of their gil throughout the population.

Finally, a veteran player who transfers to a new server won't have a lot of options to experience end-game content. They will have to wait until the new players level to 50, which could take several months for a reasonable end-game population.

Ultimately, the most important aspect of server transfers at 2.0 for me is being able to move to a server that is dedicated towards players who first and foremost speak my primary language (English), and dedicated to players who play during similar times that I enjoy playing (CST/EST). As it stands now, even adjusting time to do dungeons or content on a PST time zone is incredibly challenging.

I am completely for another round of OPEN transfers at 2.0. I want a region/language/time zone based server.
As far as the "advantage/disadvantage" goes for veteran players vs new players, I think it is a moot point because over time (6 months), it will probably level itself out.
