    Segregation upon 2.0?

Hey all - I was perusing another forum and heard about this. However, nobody could provide a link to any official source stating this. The jist goes, "when they open v2 all servers will be accessible for brand new players (depending on space ofc) but all the ones they make specifically for V2 will be for new accounts only and they will keep veteran accounts off them to make sure they don't have a massive advantage over newbies. Forgot how long they said they will block server transfers to the new worlds, 6 months?"

I've been away for the game for a bit myself, but is this the case? Can anyone link to it?

Someone else (named Destin) said, "sounds like a perfectly good policy. anything else would be replicating the mistake they made with FFXI's NA launch."

My thoughts on it are, if they segregate initially and then desegregate, the problem isn't really fixed. The veterans will still have that much more time over others. Those with all crafts maxed would probably by 2.0 have acquired the achievement-based tools, or other things that improve their synthesis, whereas new players will still be lagging behind. Also, while I understand Destin's sentiments, part of the allure of "sticking with it" all this time was the idea of being leaps and bounds ahead of "newbies" that come aboard. Plus the FFXI NA launch was the first time we could actually play the game here; conversely, FFXIV already currently exists here for people to play.

Another thing: the notion that new players can still join existing servers (just that vets can't move) still creates this issue on those pre-existing servers, meaning you'll actually have several servers of nothing but newbies, like we all were at one time, and then several servers of veterans dealing with newbies everywhere... I don't know (or even why, really), but that seems odd to me. Why would a newbie even pick a veteran server (other than a friend already there) and instantly put themselves so far behind other players, when they could pick a server where everyone starts on the same page? As for the desegregation mentioned above, someone who has become a master of everything on their current server -- but is among many masters by the time 2.0 comes out -- could jump servers when the 6-month window ends and rule over that server basically, since 6 months probably won't be enough time to do everything someone would've been able to achieve in two years.

IMO, as I've typed this out and sorted things in my head, they should just open them up to everyone. The game exists now as is already. People can start to play now. Separating the two reminds me of DC Universe Online, where PS3 players can't play with PC players. It's a bit different here, but still separating a segment of people. I didn't think that a good idea with that game, and nor do I really here. And, if just for a limited time, then what's the point?
