Perhaps not. I have played enough Etrian Odyssey to know that this is probably a bad idea.
However someone did mention the idea of being able to sketch up and notate our maps in another thread. I could go for that.
heres the point jake... BUYING or QUESTING the map is different then just being HANDED the map.. it would be different if we have to buy the maps right now.. well we dont.. they are just given to us as if some rich person just bought them all for me and handed them over.. as well as the other 500k adventurers in this game.*Goes to the store to purchase a map*
"hey shop keeper this map is blank!"
"Yeah you have to fill it in as you go."
"Well I kinda need to know where I am going...can I just get a filled in one?"
"Sure you can do this long quest (with no map to help) or pay me 473840823048023 dollars for one."
"OR...I could just go look it up on google...thanks ..bye."
That's all anyone is going to do if maps are not pre-drawn...welcome back to FFatlas, or FFwiki to get the map...
Such a dumb waste of time.
Filling in the map is the same as discovering and remember the map yourself however not being handed the map up front before i ever set foot in that area or get it from someone else.
Heres a concept sort of like yours..
"goes to the store and buys FFXIV"
"hey shop keeper, I have to start at level 1 and beat this game myself?"
"Yeah you lazy *&^% howabout you do something for yourself instead of expecting it all be done for you!"
"But why couldnt this game have been beat for me before i bought it? All im going to do now is look up how to beat everything on google and then eventually just Youtube all the cutscense, what a waste of time!"
Your point is flawed.
Morticous - Senior admin of.... well of nothing. (cool picture here)
I believe the devs have commented on this and they are keen in the "Fill in as you go" idea, I am also extremly up on this suggestion.
Having maps in XI was amazing, some maps took alot of effort and I hope in XIV maps take some effort to be 100% complete.
Hello,
This is regarding auto-mapping where areas you arrive for the first time will be blank, and gets filled in as you walk; right now we are currently looking into this and with the overall map changes we are planning to get this implemented.
However some of you already know in Eorzea their is a person named Ironhart who completed the Eorzea's map so we will make it where it doesn't break the world settings and where your path will open his path.
We will also make it interact with the achievement system and make achievements such as "Arrived to new area for first time!" or "Walked through every area" so it will add new accomplishments as you adventure.
Please look forward to it

I think maps should be immediately available to all starter, commonly traveled, and major areas. More hidden places like dungeons, or caves and stuff would be cool to find chests![]()
Oh you TOTALLY owned me in that one... because you know....ppl never buy fully completed maps to travel in a place they've never visited before.....ever.heres the point jake... I mean , we show up in clothes too, with a tool. Should we arrive naked and unarmed? Where did that stuff come from? Geezus Rice are you guys now telling me that it makes no sense that a traveler in Eorzea might purchase maps to assist him on his journey before they set out?

I really like this idea, although somehow I don't think they would put that much time and effort into the map.I want an awesome map. have it 3d with exaggerated icons of towns and caves, settlements and misc hot spots, when you mouse over them they light up more and get bigger with a provided big tool tip about what you have found in the region, whether it be beastiary or ores dug up
You are talking about FF11 though where some of the maps where ridiculously hard to get, WoW has auto mapping and you don't see people running off to the internet to look up maps because the quests system is designed to send you there and explore the world.*Goes to the store to purchase a map*

I would quite welcome this, it would show me where I have and haven't' been and I would be more likely to go exploring when I get bored or have nothing to do.
Also the 2.0 maps look a lot more interesting so I expect exploration to be a lot more worthwhile and exciting. (I can only hope that with zones though we don't get ridiculous level 70+ mobs standing in the way)
P.s. This is not real life, we are computer generated "adventurers", I am not an adventurer in real life so don't expect to fill in my own map.
