There isn't a adventure guild on limsa near the docks that dedicate to the cartography?....They should add in a cartography job to the DOL. Have to go out and explore to create maps. This job could also locate rare mining/BOT points that have higher drop rate and such. Then with paper and pen create these maps to sell to other people. Also the ability to create Treasure maps for adventurers to go out and locate...
Next patch we get Musketeer and Cartography jobs.![]()

+1 from me for "discover as you go" maps

Maps are a bad thing in MMOs. They shrink the world, killing exploration tremendously. Everquest didn't have any maps at all until like five years into its lifespan, and though the actual in-game world was pretty small, it seemed HUGE. And not only that, but you navigated by landmarks, instead of following the arrow on your map/minimap. If I were ever going to make a video game, especially an MMO, there would be NO maps. Or at the very least, you'd have a map, but there would certainly not be an arrow or dot to show where you are.

I'd be okay with uncovering maps if after certain % you get the full map. Having a poorly traced map would piss me off.
I used to really love questing for maps on XI.

questing for maps is fun and gives you one more in game thing to do!

Eh i like having my maps its pretty dumb for a populated world that travels and one that has airships, not to have a map of the place already made.

That's true for 2.0 but the world is still established cause its gonna buildings everywhere.
Edit: Me personally just don't what the excitement about filling in a map i find it annoying, hated I had to do it in XIII-2 for a silly quest. It's like if someone told you irl hey drive to New york but we wont give a map or gps and we are gonna take down all the signs that tell you which way to go, good luck finding your way there!!

I want an awesome map. have it 3d with exaggerated icons of towns and caves, settlements and misc hot spots, when you mouse over them they light up more and get bigger with a provided big tool tip about what you have found in the region, whether it be beastiary or ores dug up

I really like this idea, although somehow I don't think they would put that much time and effort into the map.I want an awesome map. have it 3d with exaggerated icons of towns and caves, settlements and misc hot spots, when you mouse over them they light up more and get bigger with a provided big tool tip about what you have found in the region, whether it be beastiary or ores dug up
You are talking about FF11 though where some of the maps where ridiculously hard to get, WoW has auto mapping and you don't see people running off to the internet to look up maps because the quests system is designed to send you there and explore the world.*Goes to the store to purchase a map*
"hey shop keeper this map is blank!"
"Yeah you have to fill it in as you go."
"Well I kinda need to know where I am going...can I just get a filled in one?"
"Sure you can do this long quest (with no map to help) or pay me 473840823048023 dollars for one."
"OR...I could just go look it up on google...thanks ..bye."
That's all anyone is going to do if maps are not pre-drawn...welcome back to FFatlas, or FFwiki to get the map...
Such a dumb waste of time.
I would quite welcome this, it would show me where I have and haven't' been and I would be more likely to go exploring when I get bored or have nothing to do.
Also the 2.0 maps look a lot more interesting so I expect exploration to be a lot more worthwhile and exciting. (I can only hope that with zones though we don't get ridiculous level 70+ mobs standing in the way)
P.s. This is not real life, we are computer generated "adventurers", I am not an adventurer in real life so don't expect to fill in my own map.
