So its still a worse version of Guild Wars 2's system?
Wake me up when someone finally implements a better one.

It is not that I dislike undercutting, I do it a lot myself, it is that I would rather not manually go to MB every hour to undercut for 5-10 minutes, I would rather have the GE system where I could post my stuff for a gil bottom and let potential buyers post what they are willing to pay for it and have the market work itself out from that point as this is actually How it works already, only that you have to go and manually lower it yourself once per hour to have any chance at all to get your stuff sold.
I'm fine when people are setting a more reasonable market price (ah yes that iron ore that sells for 20 gil should probably not be 5k per lol) but I find it annoying to see people selling it for 400 drop by 1 gil, so you then set it to 399 so they set it to 398. I don't normally sell npc stuff but if I was near one, that had something I knew would sell, and someone is doing that to me then I'll just crash the whole market as a petty salted earth moment lol, which almost always gets them to leave the market for a while.
I know it's rather lofty desire but I would love to just sell something for a fair price and not have to play the market, I do not enjoy playing the market- it is not fun (to me). Just give me a fair price, I don't want to check my retainers all the time because some person keeps dropping things by 1 gil (some items it doesn't matter cause they sell so fast who cares, but slower items it does).
Personally I sell to whatever is the lower price (matching), unless it's so low and the history proves it to be a bit silly. Then I buy the low item and resell it cause their loss lol.
So I guess tl;dr as being part of the market is one of the best ways to ensure you keep up in the gil flow you should really do it, but as I really dislike doing it anything like undercutting which promotes me to have to check my stuff more often makes me less than pleased. If I could sell stuff to NPCs for similar prices to the market I'd just do that.
This thread aged incredibly poorly given the recent international incident that Blizzard caused. Good lord.
I wouldn't call it an international incident, but it makes them look pretty bad. It should have been handled better considering recent events. But that's Blizzard for you. They seem to love controversy as of late. This might be the first one in awhile that really makes an impact on multiple fronts, but time will tell. They done goofed a month before Blizzcon.

But then the next person who wants a potion, if yours is priced competitively and is next in line, the next person wants to buy 50 potions will get your 1 potion and the 49 from someone else.First, what you proposed in your original thread is not exactly what WoW is doing from what I can tell.
Second, one example used by Blizzard in the video you linked has an item that is offered at several different price points (in fact, quite a few of them), so I don't think it will solve undercutting because people can still undercut even with the new change.
EDIT:
In fact, I'd say the new change makes WoW's auction house worse from a seller's standpoint than FFXIV's marketboard.
Let's say you have 50 potions to sell, and there's a buyer who wants to buy 50 potions, but another seller is undercutting you for 1 potion. The auction house seems to force the buyer to buy that 1 potion and then 49 of your potion (unless there is another at cheaper price or same as your price but posted later than you), and then it will mail you the 1 remaining potion from your stack that wasn't sold, thus taking it off from the auction house until you take it from your mail and put it back in the auction house.
So moral of the story: Price your stuff competitively and it will sell. If you stick 50 potions up and 49 goes to one buyer and 1 goes to another buyer, who cares, as long as you get your money? And if only half of your potions sell and someone else undercut you, well... if you're putting 50 potions up and someone only wants 20..... yours wouldn't have sold anyways. If you have 50 potions up and someone wants 20, you could at least make a partial sale which is better than no sale.

Then don't. I undercut once a day, sometimes twice. Markets are volatile, they can't keep dropping in price forever so undercutting endlessly is unnecessary. Stuff will always sell in the end.
That stuff will always sell in the end is a huge lie in cases where supply is higher than the demand, which is almost always the case in MMORPG markets and if you don’t keep prices competitive you will take way longer to sell. I don’t know How things looks at your end, But whenever I actively craft and gather or flipping things my retainers always sit with all of their MB slots filled at all time, so for me profit is directly related to How quickly stuff sell. I can’t sit and wait for weeks for that thing I made to sell as that loses me hunters of thousands of gil, if not even millions, that could have been made if that spot was accessible.

Guess that means this game is doing WoW dungeon mythic+, raids, and world quests so world zones aren't dead empty 3 month after expansion launch right...right??
oh..
