Why do people dislike undercutting so much?
Why do people dislike undercutting so much?
I'm fine when people are setting a more reasonable market price (ah yes that iron ore that sells for 20 gil should probably not be 5k per lol) but I find it annoying to see people selling it for 400 drop by 1 gil, so you then set it to 399 so they set it to 398. I don't normally sell npc stuff but if I was near one, that had something I knew would sell, and someone is doing that to me then I'll just crash the whole market as a petty salted earth moment lol, which almost always gets them to leave the market for a while.
I know it's rather lofty desire but I would love to just sell something for a fair price and not have to play the market, I do not enjoy playing the market- it is not fun (to me). Just give me a fair price, I don't want to check my retainers all the time because some person keeps dropping things by 1 gil (some items it doesn't matter cause they sell so fast who cares, but slower items it does).
Personally I sell to whatever is the lower price (matching), unless it's so low and the history proves it to be a bit silly. Then I buy the low item and resell it cause their loss lol.
So I guess tl;dr as being part of the market is one of the best ways to ensure you keep up in the gil flow you should really do it, but as I really dislike doing it anything like undercutting which promotes me to have to check my stuff more often makes me less than pleased. If I could sell stuff to NPCs for similar prices to the market I'd just do that.
NO! I love being able to dominate sections of the MB -- or at least try. It's economic PVP for me. Bwahahahahaha! The only thing from WoW we need is their glamour system. That's all.
Because they've never felt the joy of buying things cheap and reselling for a profit. There's a guy who posts stuff for like 25% of what it's selling for daily. I buy all that stuff up and resell for a profit. You go dude! Keep trucking and selling really cheap. Makes things easier for me.
Excuse my primitive ignorance but what in the name of Tom Ellis is OSRS?
If you say so.
Yeah, that would be terrible IMO. I'll keep my free market.
The one thing I wish would be changed about XIV's market is that I'd like the ability to allow people to buy only a portion of the stack of items I put up for sale. (It should be toggleable, though -- some people specifically only want the full stack to be sold all at once or not at all, and they should still be allowed that.) The single biggest problem I have with the market system in this game is that very often I only need just 1 of something, yet there are only stacks of it being sold. Having to buy and resell the stack (minus one) is very cumbersome.

I haven't read through the whole thread. But FFXIV did this back in 1.0. Once they fixed the market wards where you could do searches you could buy whatever amount from a stack that you wanted to. I was actually surprised when this was removed in 2.0 launched.
I don't suggest doing it now... but honestly I'd be okay with an MMORPG that had an entirely computer driven market lol, where the npc is the middleman for the major trade networks. Unfortunately I think there are some people who love playing market board so it probably would only be great for a few and disappointing for others.
Something akin to single player games where items have prices, and while there can be mechanisms to prevent flooding and will inflate or deflate prices based on current rarity it would be all driven by a computer. No under or overbidding. Put an item up for sell, walk away and wait till it sells.
Can't ignore the marketboard in mmorpgs if you want good gil but at the same time dealing with all the shenanigans of it is a bit annoying and not an enjoyable part of my game experience. I'd be fine if a suitable automated market existed like you see in sRPG. Though I wont pretend everyone would be fine with that lol, I know a person who plays the marketboard as the fun of their day @_@.
For the stack concept in the video it could be interesting for SE to watch how that goes, perhaps play it a bit before and after- paying attention to some particular items and determine if it functions in a way worth doing (or not). Both on the seller and buyer side, and over a period of time, to track if it's worth development and perhaps if any other ideas are. While over there maybe check out some of the most popular addons in different categories and see if they are feasible/of value for our game (FFXIV's base UI is pretty fantastic but I still miss a few addons from WoW).
Also as an aside I found it funny that Hong Kong was in some of the comments of that WoW youtube video.

Oof. This thread had a major pruning - even comments that were on-topic. :X
