Error Code 17 when entering desert part of Azim Steppes

I had a similar issue where my game was crashing whenever i walked under a specific awning in Twine in Amh Araeng. Unfortunately the solution was ultimately to reinstall the game.

While not the most onerous option (compared to, say, clean reinstalling my graphics drivers, which I've had issues with in the past, or the entire operating system, which takes forever), I'm still hoping there'll be a slightly less drastic solution.
