Spell Casting

Hello all.

Trying my hand at magic and am confused.

Am I doing something wrong when casting?

Why doesn’t the spell just happen when I activate the spell, using action bar or number shortcut? Why do I have to hit enter again after I activate the spell?

Am I missing something? Is there a setting I need to adjust.

Is this an instance where I need to make a macro?

I have not messed much with macros, but I would guess the reason you have to hit enter again after selecting your spell is that you can have one mob locked on, and then go to cast a spell, and change the target. I do it with AOE spells. single target first kill target, then AOE centered on a better positioned mob.

not sure if this helps explain why it happens for you or not, but thats my guess as to why they have done it.

There is a config option in-game that was added recently that lets you skip that second confirmation that is ideal for those playing on Keyboards. Configuration > Target Settings > Action Subtargets (Turn it off).

Action Subtargets on is only really useful for gamepad players.

Subtargets let you essentially target two things simultaneously, so it can be useful for everyone. A melee character can use it to cure a party member without interrupting their battle with the enemy, and so on. IIRC the no subtarget option also makes you unable to target dead players (can't resurrect), though a change is coming. I haven't really messed with this setting so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

/subtarget off works great for Black Mage at least, and other JOBs that don't need to target other players.
